Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) confirmed the arrival of the latest iteration of the Wigo hatchback last week. In fact, it’s about to make its debut this Saturday at the Trinoma Activity Center.
Fans looking to get a good look at the all-new Wigo need not wait for the weekend, though. That’s because the specifications of the upcoming hot hatch are already posted on TMP’s website.
And while TMP is yet to make a digital brochure available at the time of publishing, the information on its website is enough to give us a clear idea of what to expect when Toyota’s local arm finally unboxes the all-new Wigo.
From the outside, the all-new Toyota Wigo looks a lot more aggressive than its predecessor. Thanks to its larger radiator grille (that covers almost the entirety of the car’s front end) and its sharper-looking headlamps. To each side of the grille are slim fog lamps.
On its side are body-colored door handles, blacked-out window panels, and a set of 14-inch alloy wheels.
No photos of the all-new Toyota Wigo are visible on TMP’s website, but it is possible that it reflects the same aggressive look found on the hatchback’s fore.
The all-new Toyota Wigo measures 3,760 millimeters (mm) long, 1,665mm wide, and 1,515mm high.
In Indonesia, Toyota also launched a Gazoo Racing (GR) Sport grade, which wears sportier appointments such as GR aero body kits and even “special tuning” to improve its performance and handling.
Since TMP is yet to announce a GR-spec Toyota Wigo, we believe many of the nameplate’s fans are keeping their fingers crossed for the sportier version of the hatch to be brought to local shores.
TMP did not reveal any interior specifications of the all-new Philippine-market Toyota Wigo but looking at the one launched in Indonesia, it is possible that the hatchback will follow the same horizontal design concept.
Compared to the outgoing Philippine model, the all-new Toyota Wigo released in Indonesia has a more driver-oriented cockpit with its instrument cluster and floating infotainment system — which could be a 1DIN or an eight-inch display per TMP — slightly facing the person sitting behind the wheel.
In a previous press release, Toyota’s Indonesian arm revealed that the all-new Wigo adopted a 3D texture for its instrument panel and door trim. Meanwhile, its center console and transmission lever were moved higher to maintain better driver ergonomics. Further, the design and layout of the pedals of the Indonesian-market Wigo were also changed.
On that note, these updates might also be present in the all-new Toyota Wigo to be unveiled this weekend.
According to TMP’s website, the all-new Toyota Wigo is powered by a 1.0-liter gasoline engine mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable transmission.
On paper, the three-cylinder engine makes as much as 66 horsepower (hp) with 89 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque.
The outgoing Toyota Wigo model also sports a 1.0-liter engine but is either mated to a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. It makes 65hp and 89Nm of torque.
The all-new Toyota Wigo will be offered in the Philippines in three variants. It is priced from P609,000‐P729,000.
