Allan Uy was hailed as the overall winner in the inaugural season of the Manila Sports Car Club (MSCC) Miata Spec Series.
Mazda Philippines shared that the race car driver swept both races in the final round of the country’s premier one-make sportscar racing series.
Uy sat out Round 3 of the four-round racing competition, forcing a winner-takes-all title showdown with Angie King in Round 4 last November 26, 2022 at the Clark International Speedway.
Despite a strong charge from King, who had to win both races to have a shot at the overall championship, Uy drove a calculated 12-lap race in the morning to seal the victory.
Uy, who won Race 7, was trailed by King in second spot and Paul Perez in third place. While he is already guaranteed of the overall title, Uy still finished the season by ending Race 8 at the lead with Tyson Sy in second and King in third.
Meanwhile, Joey Almeda won the Rota Masters Class’ Race 7 with Toti Turalba in second and Lito Ignacio in third. However, Ignacio took the Race 8 victory after being the only one running in its division.
Further, Kirk Baltazar took the top spot in Race 7 of GT Radial Novice Class with Javier Toledo and Enzo Celestino in second and third respectively. However, Toledo crossed the checkered flag at the third spot in Race 8, trailing Aaron Guevara and Diego Dela Cruz.
In terms of the class championship, Uy Shell Pro Class claimed the victory Windy Imperial for the Rota Masters Class, and Jamal Almario for the GT Radial Novice Class.

Aside from the heart-pounding action, the final round also had a heart-warming moment as MSCC members and Mazda Philippines gave 10 children from Duyan Ni Maria Children’s Home in Mabalacat, Pampanga taxi rides around the track.
Mazda Japan executives Hidetoshi Kudo and Hironori Tanaka, who flew in from Hiroshima, Japan to watch the final round, also drove around the Clark International Speedway with a child passenger, making it a memorable and touching experience for both driver and the children.
Further, Pilipinas Shell donated school supplies and toys to the 40-year-old foundation.
“The MSCC Miata Spec Series isn’t just Mazda Philippines’ success. It is everyone’s success. This includes the drivers, mechanics, marshalls, race directors, team members, and everyone involved. We could not have done it without your support and passion. We can’t wait for yet another season of racing,” Mazda Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer Steven Tan was quoted as saying.
As the Philippines’ first one-make sportscar racing series, all MSCC Miata Spec Series cars have been created the same, highlighting driving skill in the process.
All the 20 Mazda MX-5 units used in the competition are equipped with a showroom stock 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine mated to a six-speed Skyactiv manual transmission; Cusco sports coil overs, chassis braces and roll cage; stainless steel exhaust system from Drift Xaust; Sparco competition steering wheel, racing seat, harness and safety net; and GT Radial Champiro SX2 tires mounted on custom 17 x 8.0 J Rota Strike wheels.
