Angie King Bags First Place at Round 5 of Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific

Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific
Fresh from her second-place finish in the first of two races of the fourth round of the Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific on Fuji Speedway in Japan back in July, Angie King once again showed off her prowess behind the wheel of the Ferrari 488 Challenge race car in the racing series' fifth round held last August 25 to 27, 2017  at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. In the first race, King waged a close fight with China's Yanbing Xing which resulted in the latter spinning his car near the end of the race while the former crossed the finish line in third place. The race marshals though blamed King for causing Xing's spin, resulting in a 25-second penalty--enough to push her down to fourth place and relinquish the third-place finish to Xing. For the second race, King managed to push aside his frustrations from the previous race and battled it out once more with Xing who started from pole. By the end of the first lap though, King was leading the race. On the eighth lap 8, Xing was struck by another car, pushing him down to third place. The end of the race saw King being proclaimed the winner ahead of second-place finisher Ken Sato from Japan with a time of 31 minutes and 13.629 seconds. "I'm so happy to be in first place," said King. "Thank you Ferrari Philippines for all the love and support." Although King joined the Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific only on its fourth round and has only run in four races so far, she is already in fourth place overall in the Trofeo Pirelli AM class, behind Xing in third, Seto in second, and Taiwan's Tiger Wu in first place. "We have complete confidence in Angie's talent as a competitive racer, but this first place podium finish is still a milestone worth celebrating," said Wellington Soong, President and Chairman of Autostrada Motore, the official dealer of Ferrari in the Philippines. "Nobody expected a newcomer to bag a win, but Angie, in the first two rounds of racing she has ever done in her life, made it happen. We are proud of Angie and she has our utmost support." The sixth round of the Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific will be run as a support race for the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix which will be staged from September 15 to 17, 2017 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, with only limited slots being given to interested participants. King has revealed though that, since she entered the series as it was already well underway, she might not be given a slot on the starting grid unless a participant who has previously confirmed his or her participation in the race will back out.
