Angie King Joins Fourth Round of Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific, Takes Second Place Finish
Hospitality industry scion Angie King recently joined the Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific for its fourth round which was held from July 7 to 9, 2017 at the Fuji Speedway in Japan. Despite being a neophyte to the racing series, King was qualified to run in the Trofeo Pirelli AM Class, which is the class between the premier Trofeo Pirelli and the Coppa Shell which, in turn, has the Gentlemen Cup for drivers over 55 and the Ladies Cup for women.
King is a known motorsport enthusiast and it clearly showed in her very first race. Up against competitors who have already competed in the first three rounds of the series held in Abu Dhabi and China, King recovered from a spin during the race to hold on to her position all the way to the chequered flag, finishing a little over 11 seconds behind race winner Tiger Wu from Taiwan but ahead of Yanbin Xing from China. King's total time for her first race was clocked at 32 minutes and 05.417 seconds.
The second race though didn't go so well for King as it ended prematurely after her car collided with that of a competitor that had just spun out ahead of her.
King's next race for the Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific will be from August 25 to 27, 2017 at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
"To say that I was ecstatic is an understatement. I was in shock that I was able to garner a podium finish on my first race, gaining respect from my crew and the other drivers that day," said King. "I am in love with the 488 Challenge and Fuji Speedway and I can't wait to get to the next race in Sepang."
"Angie King is well known for her passion for cars and racing and she has been a long-time friend," added Wellington Soong, the Chairman and President of Autostrada Motore, the official distributor of Ferrari in the Philippines. "Having her represent the country this year in one of the most competitive non-professional series in the world is an honor, and her podium finish just solidifies the talent of Filipinos in the world of racing, powered by one of the world’s strongest car brands."
