Angkas allies with Pasig City gov't for free rides, shields for health workers
It seems Angkas is far from over with its efforts in providing transport solutions to medical frontliners during this time of pandemic, as the motorcycle mobile app recently forged a partnership with Pasig City, giving its healthworkers free rides as well as shields.
During the meeting with Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, the city official personally received the shield donations from Angkas Chief Transport Advocate George Royeca.
According to Angkas, they are now coordinating with medical establishments in Pasig City to learn on how to serve the local health care workers (HCW).
The said city has 2,000 medical workers assigned to its government-run hospitals such as Pasig City General Hospital and the Pasig City Children’s Hospital, which is also a COVID-19 Referral Facility.
“Tinanggap po ni Mayor Vico ang ating Angkas shields para po ipamigay sa ating mga frontliners Ang mga Angkas bikers naman ay tutulong magbigay ng libreng sakay sa ating frontliners. Hopefully, makatulong talaga tayo sa mga pangangailangan ng Pasig City,” Royeca said.
Royeca also expressed support for Sotto's bid to transform the city into a health hub as well as providing infrastructure that would ensure safe transport.
“Mayor Vico has been very pro-active in anticipating and responding to the needs of his HCWs who have been courageously fighting at the forefront of this pandemic. He has always championed efficient and safe transportation which we also advocate at Angkas. Angkas is proud to support him, and we would be more than happy to assist Pasig City in their pandemic-free transport initiatives,” Royeca added.
Pasig City is the second city in Metro Manila that has received such support from Angkas.
Earlier, this week, Angkas struck a similar deal Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso of Manila.
The initiative started last week when Angkas gave the same commitment to the National Task Force against COVID, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) and provided 1,000 shields and arranged for 1,000 bikers for HCWs.
