The Aston Martin DBX 707 is hailed as one of the fastest production sport utility vehicles (SUV) on the global automotive market, and currently, the fastest here in the Philippines.
For those who do not know, the “707” in the Aston Martin DBX 707 came from the power this souped-up SUV can produce — 707ps or about 697 horsepower (hp). That figure is achieved thanks to the vehicle’s 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 powerplant mated to a nine-speed wet-clutch automatic transmission, which also lets the DBX 707 zoom from standstill to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in just 3.3 seconds with a top speed of 310kph.
And while the locally available Aston Martin DBX 707 comes with dealership-configured appointments, Filipino car buyers with P33.5 million to spare can still dress up this super SUV to their liking by placing an indent order via Aston Martin Manila — which would take anywhere from six to nine months.
But is the Aston Martin DBX 707’s powerful engine and luxurious, over-the-top flair, enough to make local automotive players raise the white flag? Let’s find out as we take a look at its so-called rivals.
Arguably the Aston Martin DBX 707’s toughest competitor in the country, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT offers its would-be owners about the same power as the former. The latter makes roughly 631 horses thanks to its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 internal combustion engine mated to a faster-shifting eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission.
This setup gives the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT the capability to go from zero to around 100kph in 3.3 seconds, just like its rival, the Aston Martin DBX 707. Its speed peaks at 300kph.
Those who have been following the brand would know that the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT conquered the 20.832-kilometer Nürburgring Nordschleife in just 7:38.9 minutes.
Standard exterior features of the Porsche Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT include its unique front apron, enlarged side cooling air intakes, contoured carbon roof, and black wheel arch extensions.
Inside, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT gets an 18-way Adaptive Sports Seats, sports rear seats, and a multifunction sports steering wheel. Also featured is the latest Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, which has a new user interface and operating logic.
Next to challenge the Aston Martin DBX 707 in the local automotive arena is the newly-launched Land Rover Range Rover Sport.
The local arm of the British automotive brand has staged its arrival in the Philippine market through an event held last month where it showcased the features and the three available trims of the luxury SUV.
Punching above its weight class, but still putting up a fight is the Land Rover Range Rover Sport Dynamic SE P440e with its hybrid powertrain system. It consists of a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbocharged gasoline powerplant, a 38.2-kilowatt-hour battery, and a 105-kilowatt electric motor.
Together, they make 433hp with 620Nm of pulling power.
Notable amenities offered by the Land Rover Range Rover Sport Dynamic SE P440e include its iconic grille with pixel LED headlights and signature daytime running lights, a sliding panoramic roof, modern-looking door handles, a set of 22-inch wheels, and a power tailgate.
Its interior also boats plenty of premium leather, a large 13.7-inch interactive driver display, and a 13.1-inch Pivi Pro infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Land Rover Range Rover Sport Dynamic SE P440e is priced at P13.49 million.
