Aston Martin Lagonda Seeks to Reconfigure the Entire Luxury SUV Landscape
After unveiling the ‘Vision Concept’ Lagonda at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show last March, Aston Martin has confirmed plans to mass-produce the radical, sector-defining zero-emission SUV. Providing a few details on the model’s first release, which is scheduled for 2021, the British car maker said that the production Lagonda will be all-electric like the concept and also wear the same design language, but won’t be autonomous.
The new four-wheel-drive SUV will also have more space than the average Aston, and pioneer near-future technologies such as an advanced Battery Electric Drivetrain, making the Lagonda SUV the first of its kind.
"In reviving one of the most iconic names in motoring we have created a unique opportunity," said Aston Martin President and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Andy Palmer. "One that allows us to cast aside an inherited 20th century approach and instead design cars around 21st century demands and desires. The Lagonda SUV is the first of its kind: a spacious, high-performance 4x4 that successfully reconciles a love of technology, luxury and style."
‘The Lagonda SUV will retain the boldness of the Vision Concept' said Aston Martin EVP and Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman. "Lagonda is a luxury brand, but it is also one rooted in technology. It will be like no other SUV to drive, so its looks have to reflect that new reality and to serve as pathfinder to a future in which the most desirable and prestigious automobiles still have a place."
It's an understatement to say that the Lagonda Vision Concept stole the show at Geneva, ensuring that the production SUV will be something to look forward to in the time leading to its release in 2021. Of course, plenty of things are bound to change, like the interior ceramic and cashmere trims in the concept, which should expectedly be replaced by more traditional options such as leathers and woods.
In the meantime, feast your eyes on the Vision Concept of the Lagonda below.
