What changes are found in the AMR22?
Aside from the updates required by the F1 and the team, the AMR22 features a redesigned racing livery.Who will be Aston Martin's main drivers for 2022?
Returning are multi-titled F1 champ Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll. The AMR22 is finished in a new 2022 Aston Martin Racing Green livery celebrating the brand’s traditional racing colors and glorious sporting legacy. Its new curvy aerodynamic design is a result of some changes made by the organization which will be implemented this year.
Aston Martin Chief Technical Officer Andrew Green believes that the AMR22 will develop over time saying, “I think what we are seeing is the first iteration of the AMR22. We are on a steep learning curve, everyone's on a steep learning curve, nobody’s got the answers yet. I think we are going to see this car develop highly over the coming season… So, it is an exciting time to be in Formula One, but it’s also quite nerve-wracking.”
Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel and rising star Lance Stroll will be sitting behind the wheel of the AMR22. The new car will hit the track today, February 11, in a shakedown at Silverstone.
“Look at that car, who wouldn't feel excited about the prospect of racing that? And when it comes to hopes for the season, I do not think anyone really knows what to expect. There are new rules and of course, all the teams will be hoping that they have got it right. Everyone wants to win, me included, and no one would be in Formula 1 if their dream was not to win. I am no different. The main thing is to keep moving forward and moving up. This is only year two of a five-year plan, so we are still quite near the start. But this team has big ambitions and big plans, and I am hugely excited to be a part of that,” said Vettel.
“This is not only a big opportunity for Aston Martin, but also for all the teams. We just have to believe that we have done a better job and I know that everyone involved is working unbelievably hard to give Seb and me the best chance. At the same time, we have to be realistic heading into the new season,” Lance added.
According to Formula One, billionaire owner Lawrence Stroll, Lance's father, has set in motion a five-year plan to make the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One Team a World Championship contender.
Lawrence Stroll has been heavily involved in Formula One, having previously backed Williams Racing. He also purchased Force India (renamed Racing Point) in 2018, which was rebranded as Aston Martin in 2021.
“The return of Aston Martin to Formula One has been a monumental moment for the brand, with transformative impact for our performance credentials and global awareness. Through the race team and our status as the Official Safety & Medical Car of Formula One, we have been able to showcase our product and test new technologies on the world’s greatest circuits,” said Stroll, who is Aston Martin Lagonda executive chairman.
The Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One Team begins the 2022 FIA Formula One World Championship season at the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix on March 20.
