Audi has officially renamed the e-tron SUV to Q8 e-tron.
The rechristened luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV) will also get a larger battery and an improved range, according to the German automotive brand.
In a statement, the Ingolstadt-based car company stated that the Audi Q8 e-tron will get two battery packs: one with an 89-kilowatt-hour (kWh) capacity and one with a 106kWh capacity. The former will be available with the base variant while the former is reserved for the higher grades.
Per Audi, the 89-kilowatt hour (kWh) capacity battery pack can reach a maximum charging performance of 150 kilowatts (kW) while the 106kWh-capacity battery pack gets a maximum charging performance of up to 170kW.
The lower-capacity battery can completely charge in around nine hours and 15 minutes on an 11kW power source and in around four hours and 45 minutes on a 22kW power source. Conversely, the higher-capacity battery will charge in around 11 hours and 30 minutes at 11 kW and six hours at 22 kW.
“In the new Q8 e-tron, we were able to significantly increase both battery capacity and charging performance. This allowed us to achieve an optimal balance between energy density and charging capacity, as well as to increase efficiency. On top of that, we improved the motors, progressive steering, and chassis control systems — and thus the dynamic driving characteristics that are typical of Audi in all versions of the Q8 e-tron,” commented Audi Board Member for Technical Development Oliver Hoffmann.
In terms of range, the new Audi Q8 e-tron is said to be capable of achieving better range. The top-of-the-line offering can go as far as 531 kilometers (km).
The Sportback body styling of the top-tier variant, on the other hand, pushes the envelope to a range of 552 km.
“The new Audi Q8 e-tron, with its improved efficiency and range and refined design, is another important component in our electric portfolio to get people excited about electromobility with emotional models that are suitable for everyday use,” said Audi Chairman of the Board of Management Markus Duesmann.
Additional details of the Audi Q8 e-tron will be revealed soon. It will go on sale in the coming weeks with deliveries starting in April of 2023.
