Audi sets new lap records in Nurburgring with RS3, RS Q8 Performance

Audi has set new lap records at the Nurburgring after fielding the RS3 and RS Q8 Performance.

The German carmaker noted that the performance-oriented models of its compact sedan and full-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) shattered records at the Nordschleife or North Loop section of the iconic Green Hell.

“From the compact segment to the full-size SUV category, Audi’s high-performance models have again proven their class-leading sporting capabilities by setting the fastest lap records at the legendary Nurburgring North Loop,” Audi said in a press release.

The Audi RS3 was able to set the new lap record in Nurburgring after it clocked in at 7:33.123.

Per the Volkswagen Group-owned brand, the Audi RS3 that dominated the said track was equipped with an inline five-cylinder, 2.5-liter TFSI engine.

The 10-time Engine of the Year award-winning powerplant can produce up to 400 horsepower (hp) with 500 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque.

Other notable features include a returned steering and brake torque vectoring system, a torque splitter with fully variable torque distribution, electronic stabilization control, wheel-selective torque control, and sports suspensions with optional adaptive dampers.

It rode on 19-inch wheels wrapped with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slick tires with a ceramic brake system.

Audi RS Q8 Performance

On the other hand, the Audi RS Q8 Performance was able to achieve a 7:36.698 lap time.

The SUV that broke the current record was fitted with a twin-turbo V8 engine mated to an eight-speed transmission. The said setup dishes out some 640 hp with 850 Nm of pulling power and propels the souped-up model from zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in just 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 305 kph.

It is equipped with the quattro all-wheel drive system, an adaptive air suspension with controlled damping, and wears aerodynamic bodykits.
