Audi to present Skysphere autonomous vehicle concept

Audi will present the Skysphere Concept at its design center in Malibu, California soon.  To create excitement for the car, Audi Head of Design Marc Lichte and Senior Vice President Henrik Wenders discussed the vehicle's styling inspiration in a video. 

With a long front end and a swooping rear, the brand's executives said that the Skysphere takes inspiration from the Horch 853A, a large coupe from the 1930s. 

Audi claims that the Skysphere can do dual duty as a driver's car, or an autonomous vehicle. The car, which looks like a grand tourer, transforms its cabin into a lounge when it is driving on its own devices. 

Along with this possible coupe, Audi also teased the Grand Sphere and Urban Sphere. All three cars are said to be the brand's attempt to "reinvent mobility as we know it today." The gadgets don't stop at the autonomous features, as the cars also aim to recognize owners and learn their preferred car settings. 

Judging from the illustration of the Grand Sphere's shape, it can be assumed that the car might be one of the Ingolstadt brand's Sportback models. It features a long cabin and sloping rear end. 

The Urban Sphere, with its upright stance, could be Audi's version of Volkswagen's ID. crossovers, which use the Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) all-electric architecture.
