Audi has again won the World Performance Car title in the 2022 World Car Awards with the e-tron GT.
The latest recognition is the fifth World Performance title and the 11th World Car Awards accolade for the Ingolstadt-headquartered marque. Apart from that, Audi considers it a new milestone as it the first time that the brand received the title with a fully electric model.
Considered as the “Oscars of the automotive world,” the World Car Awards is a program initiated, organized and conducted by automotive journalists from around the world. For the 2022 edition, the jury of 102 international automotive journalists from 33 countries selected the finalists by secret ballot based on their evaluation of each eligible vehicle. The awards were presented at the New York International Auto Show.
“We’re happy that the fully electric Audi e-tron GT is a finalist in three categories only a year after its world premiere,” Audi AG’s Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development Oliver Hoffmann said during the program. “The fact that the Audi e-tron GT takes the title of ‘World Performance Car,’ and so this award goes to Audi for the fifth time, makes us particularly proud.”
To note, Audi Philippines has started the retail for the award-winning model (along with the e-tron SUV and the flagship RS e-tron GT) as it ushers sustainable electromobility in the country as part of its drive toward providing cleaner transport solutions.
The Germany-based brand’s local arm said that through its “FutureNow” program, the company is “redefining sustainability as the new luxury” and is now “engaged in various initiatives which aim to achieve carbon neutrality.”
The two electric motors of the Audi e-tron GT provide a combined output of 530 horses and 630Nm, which allows the car to reach 0-100kph in only 4.1 seconds.
The power mill is matched to an electric quattro all-wheel drive system.
The Audi e-tron GT’s charging flaps are located on each front fender of the Audi e-tron GT containing charging points for either alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC). A juiced-up Audi e-tron GT can travel as much as 500 kilometers (based on WLTP tests).
The vehicles come with a portable charging system that can be plugged into either a suitable household outlet or a three-phase industrial outlet.
Aside from that, Audi Philippines provides owners the option of having an alternating current (AC) charging unit installed in their homes that will allow them to fully charge an Audi e-tron model overnight, or “top-up” the battery charge level whenever it is convenient to do so.
Further, Audi Philippines assured that setting up a home charging system is as easy as installing an air-conditioning unit.
