Audi's newest technology to reduce cyclist injuries, fatalities
Audi has recently demonstrated its Connected Vehicle to Everything (C-V2X) technology, showcasing features that are aimed at reducing cyclist injuries and fatalities.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What technology did Audi demonstrate to showcase how its vehicles can reduce cyclist injuries and fatalities?
Audi demonstrated its Connected Vehicle to Everything (C-V2X) technology with features that can reduce injuries and fatalities among cyclists. What are Audi's C-V2X safety features that were recently demonstrated?
Audi’s demonstration showcased features namely the Proximity Warning, Cross Traffic Alert, Parallel Parking Departure Alert, Right Turn Assist, and Left Turn Assist.During the demonstration, Audi highlighted some of the C-V2X technologies’ cyclist-friendly features namely the Proximity Warning (Front and Rear Collision Warning), Cross Traffic Alert, Parallel Parking Departure Alert, Right Turn Assist (also known as “Right Hook"), and Left Turn Assist ( also known as “Left Cross”).
Proximity Warning (Front and Rear Collision Warning) alters a driver when the vehicle and a cyclist come closer to one another. Cross Traffic Alert, on the other hand, activates when a vehicle detects if a bicycle is on a possible collision path when approaching from the left or right up ahead.
Meanwhile, Parallel Parking Departure Alert works when a parallel parked vehicle detects if a bicycle is approaching from behind.
Right Turn Assist and Left Turn Assist, on the other hand, allows the driver to signal incoming bicycle riders that they are turning either left or right.
These demonstrated use cases indicate that C-V2X has the potential to increase awareness among vehicles and permit more cooperative driving between cyclists and vehicles.
For those who do not know, C-V2X is the use of cellular communications technology between a vehicle and its surroundings; including road users, traffic features, or other vehicles. It can include traffic lights, crosswalks, road signs, school buses, construction workers, and more.
With this technology, the display in the cockpit of an Audi vehicle can inform drivers when they need to become aware of a particular situation and adapt their driving accordingly. This technology can enable drivers to recognize dangerous situations much sooner than if they were driving without these prompts. Audi demonstrated use cases aimed to benefit both drivers and road cyclists.
