Auto Expo 2020: MG Showcases Fully Electric Marvel X with 400km Range
British automaker MG Motors made a stir during the Auto Expo 2020 when it showcased the MG Marvel X.
The Marvel X SUV is the production version of the Vision E Concept, which was showcased several years ago during the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show. MG Motors, a subsidiary of SAIC Motors, the first Chinese automaker that penetrated the Indian auto industry, wants to showcase its capabilities in producing smart electric vehicles (EV).
On the outside, the Marvel X looks like your typical SUV with its robust front grille that took much of the front fascia and headlights connected via LED daytime running lights that run across the front. Inside, the Marvel X is all about luxury with its leather-trimmed seats, steering wheel, and dashboard. The ubiquitous infotainment system comes in an amazing 12.3 inches which also shows driving data such as speed, power usage, and a small image of the car in its lane when using the driver assistance features. This is truly an efficient car as MG claims that the AC is 50 percent more efficient than the traditional AC system in most vehicles.
As a luxury EV, expect this SUV to come also with advance safety tech and driver-assist features like lane-keeping assist and steering assist, adaptive cruise control, 360 degrees view camera, intelligent parking assist, automatic emergency braking, forward collision alarm, and real-life driving assistance system which allows the car to drive itself for short periods.
The Marvel X will be powered by a 52.5 kWh battery pack accompanied by electric motors offered in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options. The rear-wheel-drive model generates 183 horsepower and 410 Nm torque, while the all-wheel-drive variant can churn out 296 hp output and 665 Nm of torque. Accordingly, the Marvel X has an NEDC-tested 403 and 370 km of driving range for the 2WD and 4WD respectively. But the automaker said that this EV can go as far as 500km on a single charge when cruising at 60 kmph. Charging time takes about eight and a half hours on an AC wall-mounted fast charger.
MG Motors claims that Marvel X will be the world's first mass-production vehicle with integrated internet, electric, and autonomous capabilities. The company, however, has not yet confirmed any release date for the Marvel X.
