Auto Expo 2020: MG Shows off New RC6 Sedan
SAIC Motor Corp-owned MG Motor India is showcasing the Chinese made Baojun RC6 sedan at its display during the Auto Expo 2020. The vehicle will be rebadged under the MG name, competing against the likes of the Skoda Octavia and Honda Civic. The RC6 will reach Indian dealerships beginning 2021.
Style-wise, the rebadged RC6 sports the signature MG look, beginning with the massive hexagonal radiator grille that links to the similarly shaped headlamps. Circle fog lamps and air dam slits make up the lower portion of the car’s front façade.
From the side, the RC6 possesses a fastback silhouette that makes it look rather sporty. A sharp shoulder line further adds visual interest to the profile, and combined with the flowing roof, gives it a coupe-ish look. At the rear, RC-6 looks the same as MG’s recently launched electric vehicle, the MG ZS. A tall ground clearance gives it an SUV stance, but if there’s any doubt to what it is, the three box layout makes it decidedly a sedan.
Inside, the RC6 rather lacks in originality, with many of its design cues already seen in a number of luxury cars, most notably from Mercedes-Benz and Audi. Specifically, the connected infotainment screen and digital instrument panel looks directly lifted from the Mercedes E-Class setup, while the air conditioner vents appear to be inspired by the Audi Q7’s dash, wherein the vents run the length of the entire dash.
This is not to say that the interior design is not stylish though. If you can overcome the eerie similarities, then there’s no reason to like the RC6’s overall look.
As for the car’s measurements, the MG RC6 sedan is 4925mm long, 1880mm wide, and 1580mm tall, with a 2800mm wheelbase, consequently making its cabin one of the biggest on the market.
The China-spec RC6 features dual-zone climate control, connected car technology, a digital instrument display, adaptive cruise control, and a Bosch level-2 driver assistance system. Airbags and ABS with EBD come as standard safety features, as does, driver assistance systems such as traffic jam assist, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and intelligent cruise assist.
Although pricing has not yet been revealed, industry pundits expect it to be right in the ballpark of its aforementioned competitors.
