As if bagging the title "Fastest front-wheel drive production car ever around the Nürburgring Nordschleife" to the tune of seven minutes, 43.8 seconds wasn’t good enough, the Honda Civic Type R decided to set another new record, this time at the Magny-Cours Grand Prix circuit in France by crushing all its competitors flat out in just 2 minutes and 1.51 seconds as the fastest front-wheel drive production car around the track.
That's faster than the world record for the fastest time gulping down a Big Mac with a large drink, which is two minutes, 52.22 seconds.
And of course, it's definitely much harder. The Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours is mostly a flat track, with a mixture of slow hairpins and high-speed chicane sections that offer little overtaking opportunities for race car drivers. Watching it can be tedious for the adrenaline-challenged, race car junkies, but it still makes for good entertainment, to say the least.
The Civic Type R was driven by Esteban Gueriri, an Argentine race car driver. The 33-year old moved to Europe in 2002 following a successful stint in Formula Renault and karting in Argentinia. He became a part of the Honda factory squad, and replaced the injured Tiago Monteiro who was then competing against Volvo's Thed Björk.
He's currently driving Honda Civic TCR when he joined All-Inkl.com Racing (Münnich Motorsport GmbH) for the World Touring Car Cup this 2018.
According to Guerriri: "The best thing about the Type R is that it gives you confidence," he said.
"It’s very responsive and gives you good feedback. People call the Type R the ultimate performance hot hatch and we proved today that it really is; the car continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible from front wheel drive."
The Honda Civic Type R is usually the car many aspiring race car drivers use as a stepping stone to professional race car driving. It has won many accolades and awards over the years, including getting three awards from BBC Top Gear Magazine last 2017. They include "Best Hot Hatch of the Year" and "Best Car of the Year" award.
