Beat Number Coding with Waze's New Feature
It is very difficult when your car is restricted for the day because of number coding (officially known as the Unified Vehicle Volume Reduction program or UVVRP) and have scheduled errands for that day.
But there are several ways around the Metro where you can beat number coding. If you can't memorize them or just to be on the safe side, you can use your Waze!
If you have not used the Waze navigation app--which we doubt--here is its latest feature: Number Coding for the Filipino Waze Community.
For some time already, you are being asked by Waze to input your plate number in the app.
According to the company, the latest feature was designed to aid drivers to navigate through Metro Manila's number coding scheme without getting a ticket.
This new feature will allow you to input your vehicle's plate number so you can get reminders when your vehicle is restricted from the road and find alternative routes.
The Waze Community's pool of volunteer map editors has just finished incorporating the number coding scheme into the maps of Metro Manila, Cavite, and Baguio.
The new feature will help Wazers get to their destination while avoiding restricted roads during their coding day. Drivers simply need to key in the last two digits of their car's license plate into the app (EDITOR's NOTE: Or the last two digits on the conduction sticker if it still has no plates from the Land Transportation Office) in order to receive routes that they are allowed to drive on based on the day's restrictions.
Here's how to utilize the newest feature:
- Tap the Menu, then Settings.
- Tap Car details / Vehicle details.
- Tap License plate / Number plate.
- Enter the last 2 digits of your car's license plate.
After that, you are good to go and Waze is ready to help you out around the metro's number coding scheme.
You will receive several routes, and Waze will indicate which ones pass through restricted roads. You can then choose which one to follow. It is highly advised that you check this at the beginning of every trip. Here's how:
- Tap the ETA bar at the bottom of your screen.
- Tap Routes on the bottom left corner to view alternate routes.
- To view turn-by-turn directions, tap List view.
- To view as a map, tap Map view.
Own multiple cars? No problem. You can change the license plate number anytime on the app.
