Benedetto Vigna appointed as Ferrari’s new CEO

The Maranello-based Italian luxury sports car manufacturer has recently named Benedetto Vigna as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Vigna will be joining Ferrari on September 1 after he vacates his post in STMicroelectronics (“ST”) where he is currently the Analog, MEMS (Micro-electromechanical Systems) and Sensors Group head. He is also a Member of the ST Group’s Executive Committee.

“We’re delighted to welcome Benedetto Vigna as our new Ferrari CEO. His deep understanding of the technologies driving much of the change in our industry, and his proven innovation, business-building, and leadership skills, will further strengthen Ferrari and its unique story of passion and performance, in the exciting era ahead,” said Ferrari Chairman John Elkann, who temporarily held the role.

The newly appointed CEO has more than 200 patents on micromachining and has penned numerous publications. Vigna graduated from the University of Pisa, Italy as cum laude with a degree in Subnuclear Physics.

Some of his accolades include the 2013 MEMS Industry Group’s Executive of the Year Award, the 2013 European SEMI Award, the 2015 IEEE Frederik Philips Award, and the Manager of the Year 2017 by German magazine Markt & Technik.

Entering Ferrari, Vigna’s priority will be to see the brand continue its leadership position in the luxury sportscar industry. With his experience in an industry that is rapidly transforming the automotive sector, the Potenza-born semiconductor chip industry veteran looks to accelerate Ferrari’s ability to pioneer next-gen technologies in the automotive industry.
