The Bentley Continental GT Speed was recently hailed as the 2022 Car of the Year (COTY) by international publication Robb Report.
The aforementioned recognition is not new for the nameplate as the first generation of the luxury grand tourer also took the same title in 2004.
According to Bentley, Robb Report editors evaluated 10 vehicles, which include the Audi RS 6 Avant and the track-inspired Lamborghini Huracán STO.
The statement also shared that the evaluators “unanimously cited the Bentley Continental GT’s agility, which they credited to the luxury grand tourer’s four-wheel steering and limited-slip differential.”
“This car sparks joy at every turn and every press of the gas pedal,” Robb Report Editor Kylie White was quoted as saying.
The Bentley Continental GT Speed is powered by the British marque’s 6.0-liter, twin-turbocharged W12 engine that has the capability to provide 650hp and 900Nm of pulling power, allowing the two-door grand tourer to reach a top speed of 335kph. The vehicle can also go from zero to 100 kph in 3.6 seconds. The aforementioned power mill is paired to a dual-clutch, eight-speed gearbox.
To ensure comfort, the Bentley Continental GT Speed has the Bentley Dynamic Ride and three-chamber active air suspension with adaptive damping.
The 19th edition of Robb Report’s Car of the Year has reorganized its judging criteria and developed a new points scale that made the evaluation process faster and fairer. The judges appraised models across five categories: looks, performance, luxury and comfort, utility, and “wow” factor and collectability.
“In the end, our judges hardly suffered, driving 10 exceptional automobiles representing a range of aesthetics, engineering and philosophies,” Robb Report wrote.
