Bentley to stop producing W12 engines

After producing 105,000 examples over the last two decades, Bentley shall soon the production of its iconic W12 engine.

In a statement, the Crewe-based automaker the aforementioned powertrain will be replaced by a new V8 hybrid mill by summertime of 2024 in United Kingdom (within June-September of the year).

Named the Ultra Performance Hybrid, the engine can deliver a peak output of 779 horsepower (hp) — 90 hp more compared to the retiring powerplant outfitted in the Flying Spur and GT. The aforementioned performance makes the new engine the “most dynamic, most responsive and most efficient system in Bentley’s history.”

In addition, the hybrid system also has an 80-kilometer electric-only range.

Further, the new Ultra Performance Hybrid is supposed to deliver carbon emissions of less than 50 grams per kilometer (based on Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure standards).
