How long has it been since Bentley released a Speed Six model?
Per Bentley, it has been 93 years since the company released a Speed Six model. When will Bentley build the first Speed Six customer car?
According to Bentley, the first Speed Six customer car will be built in October of this year. The car revealed at Goodwood estate is the first new Speed Six in 93 years.
Over the past 10 months, Bentley Speed Six Car Zero was built by an exceptionally skilled team of Mulliner artisans and specialists. According to Bentley, a major driver of the Speed Six program is the development and retention of modern and traditional coachbuilding skills. On that note, the storied automotive brand explained that the build has seen craftspeople with decades of experience working alongside a younger generation of mechanics to ensure that the said skills are passed on.
The Bentley Speed Six Car Zero, the brand pointed out, is a work of art and was built and trimmed entirely in the Mulliner workshop at the company’s Dream Factory in Crewe.
Per the British carmaker, Bentley Speed Six Car Zero will be used in a development program, which includes real-world durability and track-based testing.
The test program is said to have been designed to achieve the equivalent of 35,000 kilometers (km) of real-world driving across 8,000km of track driving. Intervals of gradually increasing duration and speed, Bentley stated, will check functionality and durability under the most challenging conditions — giving confidence in future customer cars.
Soon after, Bentley Speed Six Car Zero will be retained by the Crewe-based marque ahead of the build of 12 customer cars — all of which are already sold.
In the next six months, Bentley’s clients who will be purchasing the limited Speed Six build will have the chance to discuss their preferred specifications in further detail in personal commissioning sessions.
The said customers will be offered a personal fitting service in the second development car, known as Speed Six Factory Works, to ensure each car is built to each individual customer’s comfort needs.
The first customer car will be built in October of this year, and the series of 12 customer cars is due to be completed by the end of 2025, with each car taking 10 months to complete.
“So much more than a replica, a continuation car is built to the same designs, using the same processes, as the original car that inspires the series. The Speed Six is the second pre-war Continuation Series by Mulliner, Bentley’s bespoke and coachbuilding division, following the Blower Continuation Series which itself was the first pre-war continuation ever created,” Bentley wrote in a press release.
