Further, Abalos (who had a stint at the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority as chairman during the term of then President Rodrigo Duterte) also vowed to initiate transformations across all the jails and inmates in the country.
“Nararapat lamang na mabigyan ng sapat na kagamitan ang mga bantay-bilangguan ng BJMP upang inyong maipagpatuloy ang dekalidad at hindi-matatawarang husay ninyo sa inyong nga tungkulin. You can expect that in the coming months, we will continue with reforms and initiatives aimed at renovating, beautifying, and modernizing the bureau's facility – not just modern, but with heart),” Abalos said.
Further, the interior and local government secretary likewise recognized the BJMP officers’ commitment to service, likening them to modern-day heroes.
“The DILG recognizes the dedication and hard work of our officers who stand guard 24/7 to look after the gates of our prisons, and lead our PDLs into a life of reformation and rehabilitation,” he said.
“We must remember that our mandate to reform and rehabilitate our inmates should start with a heart and humanity – that is the truest sense of service,” he added.
