The upcoming launch of the BMW iX marks a significant chapter for the luxury automotive brand. BMW Philippines says that the fully electric sports activity vehicle (SAV) will be the first model to be based on a new, modular, scalable toolkit on which the future of the BMW Group will be built.

According to the German automaker, the BMW iX is now ready for series production and we will most likely be seeing a few of BMW’s EV SAVs out on the road starting November 2021.

BMW will launch the iX in two variants: the BMW iX xDrive40 and the BMW iX xDrive50. A third variant, the BMW iX M60, will join the lineup on a later date says the carmaker.

The BMW iX xDrive40 will have a combined output of 240kW/326hp with 630Nm of torque while the BMW iX xDrive40 offers a combined output of 385kW/523hp and 675Nm of torque. Both are equipped with an electric all-wheel-drive system.

On the other hand, the BMW iX M60 will boast a combined output of 440kW/600hp.

The BMW iX xDrive40 speeds from zero to 100kph in 6.1 seconds while the BMW iX xDrive50 hits the same mark from rest in 4.6 seconds.

In terms of range, the BMW iX xDrive40 offers an estimated range of 425km while the BMW iX can cover an estimated range of 630km on a single charge.

Representing the pinnacle of BMW Group’s electrification strategy, the BMW iX is the brand’s chosen platform to launch the new generation BMW iDrive. The latest iteration of BMW’s display and operating system will expand the interaction between driver and vehicle.

The BMW Curved Display will be paired with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant to bring touchscreen and verbal operation to a different level. In addition, the digital personal assistant now offers additional capabilities and will use a new graphic when communicating with the vehicle’s occupants.

To keep the vehicles “fresh,” BMW will offer over-the-air upgrades as well as the option to purchase vehicle functions from the BMW ConnectedDrive Store.

BMW also equips the iX upcoming range with a variety of driver-assist features including a front collision warning system, steering and lane control assistant, active cruise control with Stop&Go, parking assistant, reversing assist camera, and the reversing assistant. BMW also included the new “exit warning function” and remote theft recorder in the iX series.

Meanwhile, BMW also upped passenger amenities for its soon-to-launch SAVs. The automatic climate control system is equipped with a nanofiber filter and can be operated using touchscreen controls.

An optional “Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System with speakers integrated out of sight in the head restraints and a 4D Audio function using bass shakers in the front seats” elevates the auditory experience of the passengers.

Production of the BMW iX will take place at BMW’s Dingolfing plant in Germany. The vehicles will be manufactured using purely green power, monitored raw materials extraction, and a high proportion of natural and recycled materials.

The BMW iX will make its European launch in November while it will be introduced in the US market in March of next year. There’s no news when the BMW iX will reach local dealerships, but BMW Philippines urges customers to register their interest on BMW’s website.
