BMW Motorrad is adding "customization based on historical roots" to its R 18 and R 18 Classic cruiser bikes with Option 719 parts.
BMW says the internal code 719 "already stood for particularly high-quality and exclusive special equipment" from decades ago. The Option 719 now includes an aerodynamic body pieces, special seats, paint combos, wheels, and badge.
The Design Package Aero for the R 18 and R 18 Classic includes cylinder head covers, and intake snorkel cover on the left and right side of the bikes.
BMW Motorrad says that all parts are made of aluminum with a brushed, colorless anodised surface. The cylinder head covers wear air vents that recall the “streamliners” of the 1920s and 1930s.
Meanwhile, the highlight of the covers is a badge made of solid copper, which is chrome-plated and partially finished in white. The white paint enclosing the "719” is a throwback to historical emblems that were lined with enamel during that era, the German motorcycle manufacturer adds.
The R 18 and R 18 Classic can also wear the Option 719 seat. It offers integrated seat heating, and a unique material selection and finish.
Here, the upper materials are colored black, and are combined with diamond-shaped quilted embossing. An embroidered BMW logo and the "719" symbol on the side are the finishing touches to this exclusive seat.
The Option 719 is easily recognizable with its paint finish of
Galaxy Dust Metallic over Titanium Silver 2 Metallic.
Galaxy Dust Metallic is said to shimmer from violet to turquoise blue, depending on the light. Large effect pigments in the paint create a unique visual effect when exposed to sunlight.
On the other hand, Titanium Silver 2 Metallic covers the fuel tank mirror. The transition between the two color surfaces consists of a hand-applied smoke effect familiar from the legendary R 90 S. The mirror surface is surrounded by a classic white double line, BMW Motorrad says.
The two Option 719 wheel sets Aero and Icon can be clad in matte silver and matte black, which "provide a particularly refined and technically sophisticated look."
With the alloy wheels' six-spoke design and the milled filigree ribs of the spokes, they promise an eye-catching look. The milled areas give the aluminium a fascinating contrast with the paint color of the wheels.
These optional accessories are available in Europe, September this year.
BMW Motorrad entered the cruiser segment with the R 18 in September 2020, followed by the R 18 Classic in 2021, the second member of the new model series. The R 18 Classic "echoes the beginnings of the big cruisers suitable for touring."
While BMW describes the R 18 as purist, the R 18 Classic is characterized by a large windshield, pillion seat, the saddlebags, LED auxiliary headlights, and a 16-inch front wheel.
The very "successful market launch" of the classic cruiser bikes were carried out with the First Edition models, BMW Motorrad says. Production of these exclusive, limited-edition models will cease July 2021, after more than 13,000 units have been manufactured to date.
The R 18 is powered by a 1,802 cc engine that creates 91hp and 158Nm of torque.
Locally, the BMW Motorrad choices are wide with R 1250 and R 1250 RT, to name a few models.
