BMW Motorrad launches CE 04 electric scooter

BMW Motorrad, the German automaker’s motorcycle division, has launched its latest two-wheeled offering — the BMW CE 04.

According to the automotive brand, the BMW CE 04 will use the same battery cells as the company’s latest EV SUV, the BMW iX.

“The BMW CE 04 is our new electric star for the city. It combines an e-drive with emotion and motorcycling fun. (It features) the latest technology, and the best battery cells, which also provide power in the BMW iX. Just like the CE 04, all future new BMW Motorrad models for urban mobility will be pure electric,” said BMW AG CEO Oliver Zipse.

Powering BMW’s new scoot is an 8.9kWh battery. BMW says that the CE 04’s lithium-ion battery allows for an estimated range of some 130km.

BMW says that the charging technology used in the CE 04 was based on the systems used in cars. That said, the BMW CE 04 can be recharged via a regular household socket or a public charging station. A completely drained battery can be recharged to full capacity at four hours and 20 minutes.

BMW will also make a quick charger an optional add-on that should charge the battery in just an hour and 40 minutes.

The battery works in conjunction with a permanent magnetic motor that has a maximum power output of 42hp. This lets the rider speed from standstill to 50kph in 2.6 seconds.

Safety-wise, the BMW CE 04 is equipped with automatic stability control (ASC) and will also come with three riding modes: “Eco,” “Rain,” and “Road.”

It will be supported by a telescopic fork at the front and a single-sided swingarm with a directly controlled, fully covered spring strut for suspension and damping at the rear. They are paired with twin disc brakes at the front and a singe-disc system at the rear.

A 10.25-inch TFT color screen with integrated map navigation and connectivity will come as standard.

The BMW CE 04 will have LED lighting at the front and at the rear.

An “ex works” trim will also be made available which should add dynamic traction control (DTC), a “Dynamic” riding mode, ABS Pro with banking capability, and adaptive Headlight Pro and light functions.

“The new BMW CE 04 is the logical and, at the same time, rethought continuation of BMW Motorrad’s electromobility strategy. Urban conurbations are its element. This is where it sets a new benchmark — in terms of both technology and visual style,” says BMW CE 04 Project Manager, Florian Roemhild.

No announcement has been made on whether the BMW CE 04 will hit Philippine dealerships. Pricing starts at US$11,795 in the US and from €11.990 in Germany.
