BMW Motorrad has previewed the latest iteration of the R 12 nineT motorcycle.
The new retro roadster — said to be the successor of the R nineT, which was launched exactly 10 years ago — will offer tons of conceptual options for those who want to eventually customize their rides.
“The R nineT and its customizing concept established the new Heritage experience for BMW Motorrad's 90th birthday and has become an indispensable cornerstone of our model range. The new R 12 nineT consistently continues the successful heritage story surrounding the legendary BMW boxer engines with an even more classic, reduced design language, even greater degrees of freedom when it comes to customizing and, last but not least, new and innovative technology,” said BMW Motorrad Head Dr. Markus Schramm.
While BMW Motorrad is yet to reveal the full specifications of the R 12 nineT, it has disclosed important details that will lay the groundwork for motorcycle enthusiasts looking to personalize their bikes.
At the heart of the BMW R 12 nineT is a flat-twin 1200 boxer engine that is both air and oil-cooled. This, BMW Motorrad explained, gives the R 12 nineT unique power and hallmark sound typical with BMW motorcycles.
Speaking of which, the BMW R 12 nineT sports a left-side exhaust pipe with a double silencer and conical end pieces.
Providing stopping power are radially mounted four-piston monobloc calipers and steel braided brake lines.
The chassis used for the BMW R 12 nineT, BMW’s motorcycle division pointed out, is a one-piece tubular space with a bolted-on rear frame. Additionally, it gets classic wheel guides with high-quality upside-down telescopic forks at the front and Paralever at the rear.
Other notable features include an LED headlamp with a black surround light guide element, two round instrument panels, and a redesigned mudguard.
The abovementioned features are expected to seamlessly suit BMW Motorrad’s tailor-made, high-quality, and original accessory range.
“The purist design language is dominated by the clear tank/seat/rear line, in the style of the traditional /5 or the legendary R 90 S of the 70s. At first glance, the tank itself is a classic BMW boxer tank, with a typical bend in the lower edge and classic knee contact. The new R 12 NineT also features side covers in the area of the frame triangle in the authentic Roadster look — another reminiscence of BMW motorcycles of the 1970s,” commented BMW Motorrad Head of Design Edgar Heinrich.
BMW Motorrad confirmed that it will publish further information about the BMW R 12 nineT in the second half of 2023.
