BMW Motorrad unveils new M 1000 RR, M 1000 RR M Competition
BMW Motorrad, the BMW’s motorcycle division, has unveiled the new M 1000 RR and M 1000 RR M Competition models.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What engine is used for the BMW M 1000 RR and M 1000 RR M Competition?
Both motorcycles use the M RR four-cylinder engine that puts out a maximum power output of 212hp.What is the top speed of the BMW M 1000 RR and M 1000 RR M Competition?
According to BMW Motorrad, the BMW M 1000 RR and M 1000 RR M Competition can reach top speeds of 306-314kph.Both race-oriented motorbikes are equipped with the M RR four-cylinder engine that makes 212 horsepower (hp) at 14,500 revolutions per minute (rpm).
Its smaller sibling, the upcoming 2023 BMW S 1000 RR, can only provide 205 horses at 13,000rpm.
The engine of the M RR models — as BMW Motorrad explained — features two-ring forged pistons, titanium valves, and intake ports made with fully computerized numerical control (CNC) technology. In addition, the power plant is accompanied by the BMW ShiftCam technology and an anti-hopping clutch optimized for race use.
Adding to the power offered by the light and compact engine are aerodynamic improvements that help boost the performance of the track-ready BMW M 1000 RR and M 1000 RR M Competition.
Increasing the top speed and optimizing the airflow of the both motorcycles is a newly designed fairing made of exposed visible carbon fiber with a higher windscreen. For the first time, the fairing also comes with a particularly light yet very rigid front fairing support made of carbon fiber. Speed of the new M RR models now peaks at 306-314 kilometers per hour (kph).
BMW Motorrad also revised the M Winglets fitted on the M 1000 RR and the M 1000 RR M Competition. They now generate significantly more aerodynamic downforce — both in an upright riding position and when banking. The rider gains even more confidence with the motorcycle’s front wheel allowing one to achieve greater lean angles or higher cornering speeds and a reduced wheelie tendency.
New to the BMW M 1000 RR and M 1000 RR M Competition is its suite of exterior appointments: carbon fiber front mudguard with integrated brake ducts, carbon fiber M Aero Wheel Covers, and M Carbon wheels with a new surface and M Design Tapes (forged wheels optionally available ex works), ergonomic M Endurance seat, short number plate holder, and a modified wiring harness with LWS connector for even easier removal of the number plate holder with light units.
“We have achieved an engineering masterpiece in the aerodynamic development of the M RR due to our unwavering ambition, total passion, and technical finesse. Thanks to countless hours in the wind tunnel as well as in road tests, we were able to considerably increase the top speed with unchanged engine output and at the same time significantly increase the downforce, also when banking in corners. Our development work will be rewarded with racing success,” said BMW M 1000 RR Project Manager Christian Gonschor.
Pricing and availability of the BMW M 1000 RR and BMW M 1000 RR M Competition are yet to be announced.
