KEY TAKEAWAYS
What powers the BMW M3 CS?
The BMW M3 CS is powered by a 3.0-liter engine that makes 550 horsepower. When will BMW launch the all-new M3 CS?
Per BMW, the all-new M3 CS will be launched in the third quarter of 2023.Per the German automotive brand, the all-new BMW M3 CS is fitted with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder in-line engine mated to an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with the M xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system.
The abovementioned powertrain also packs a wealth of technological details derived directly from the BMW M4 GT3 race-car unit. For example, its crankcase has a sleeve-free, closed-deck construction and is extremely rigid, making it suitable for very high combustion pressures. Additionally, its engine features weight-saving cylinder bores with a wire-arc sprayed iron coating to reduce frictional losses.
Further, the mill is built with a forged lightweight crankshaft that aids power build-up with its exceptionally high torsional resistance while also feeding the engine’s high revolutions. Also, its cylinder head has a 3D-printed core, allowing the coolant ducts to be routed in an optimum arrangement for temperature management that would be impossible to achieve using conventional metal casting methods.
Finally, the oil supply system — like the cooling system — was designed to handle the specific challenges of track use.
Not only does the all-new BMW M3 CS have a powerful engine but it also has a finely-tuned chassis. BMW revealed that the chassis was tuned specifically to match the M3 CS’ engine performance.
The chassis is made with individually tuned axle kinematics and bespoke wheel camber settings, dampers, auxiliary springs, and anti-roll bars to optimize steering precision, transmission of lateral control forces when cornering, spring and damping response, and wheel location.
Other model-specific systems featured in the BMW M3 CS include electronically controlled dampers of the adaptive M suspension, the electromechanical M Servotronic steering with variable ratio, and the integrated braking system.
For its brakes, BMW equipped the M3 CS with M Compound brakes with brake calipers painted in either Red or Black. Optionally available are M Carbon ceramic brakes with calipers are available in either matt Gold or Red.
Housing these brakes are M light-alloy wheels in an exclusive V-spoke design with a Gold Bronze finish. They are shod in track tires that have been purpose-developed for the special-edition model. Alternatively, would-be owners can get high-performance specifically designed for circuit racing.
Its power and precision are reflected in the M3 CS’ design. Its exterior is bedecked with unique appointments like exposed carbon-fiber surfaces on the roof, two indents chiseled into the hood, the front splitter, front air intakes, M exterior mirror caps, rear spoiler and rear apron, as well as Black side skirts and M gills.
The interior boasts more unique appliques, which are model-specific M Carbon bucket seats, leather door trims, M seat belts with a woven stripe pattern in BMW M colors, door sill plates with “M3 CS” badging, an Anthracite-colored headliner, interior trim strips in Carbon Fiber finish, and an M Alcantara steering wheel with CFRP shift paddles and a red center marker.
As for its displays, the all-new BMW M3 CS features a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment screen.
The new BMW M3 CS is said to be built in a limited run at BMW Group Plant Munich from March 2023. After which, BMW said it will be launched in the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Japan shortly after. Price is yet to be confirmed.
