The BMW Concept XM will go into production from the end of 2022 onwards.“The BMW Concept XM represents a complete re-imagining of the high-performance car segment. It underlines the ability of BMW M GmbH to break with established conventions and push boundaries in order to offer fans of the brand the ultimate driving experience. The series-production car — the first pure BMW M model since the legendary BMW M1 — also shows how we are approaching the step-by-step electrification of our brand,” said BMW M GmbH CEO Franciscus van Meel.
When the BMW Concept XM hits production, the Cybertruck-like SUV will bring together a V8 engine and a high-performance electric motor to develop maximum output of 750 horses and peak torque of 1,000Nm. In addition, BMW says that the drivetrain enables an all-electric range of up to 80 km.
The series-production model will be called BMW XM and will be the first electrified high-performance model in the BMW M portfolio.
The BMW Concept XM features a striking front end — although its appeal might have had too much of an impact as fans have already started to take their thoughts to Twitter. Nevertheless, these not-so-narrow nostrils, along with the large air intakes, were designed to hint at the power of the V8 engine.
Its rear mirrors the design of the BMW Concept XM’s bow with similarly sharp and angular L-shaped rear lights. The dual-branch, twin-tailpipe exhaust system employed here reduces backpressure for the V8 engine and also generates the emotionally rich soundtrack accompanying the engine’s imposing power delivery.
Inside, the BMW Concept XM features a spacious and luxurious cabin with lounge-like rear seats wrapped in luxurious velvet upholstery with diamond quilting. The rear seats also feature leather-finished head restraints while the entirety of the cabin’s rear end features deep-pile carpeting with a diamond pattern.
The front seats come in warm brown leather and wows the front passengers with the BMW Curved Display with M-specific user interface.
The BMW Concept XM will go into production from the end of 2022 and will be built at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in the US. It will be available in plug-in hybrid form only and exclusively as an M model.
