BMW reveals a new iteration of its 3 Series Sedan and 3 Series Touring models that feature an extensively modernized premium ambience and boast advances in digitalization, operation, and equipment.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What updates did BMW give the new 3 Series Sedan and 3 Series Touring models?

The updates on the 3 Series sedan and touring variants include exterior, interior, and infotainment upgrades.
  • When will BMW launch the new 3 Series models?

The new 3 Series models are expected to be launched in July.
  • “With its elegantly sporty design and agile handling, the BMW 3 Series has provided a reference point for driving pleasure in the premium mid-size segment from day one. And it also represents the core of the BMW brand,” BMW said in a recent press release.

The new 3 Series models feature an updated kidney grille flanked by newly designed headlamps.

The grille now has modified contours and new double bars. Black high-gloss air intakes are positioned below the kidney grille. Meanwhile, the lights at the fore of the two 3 Series cars are now much slimmer, with clear contours, and daytime driving lights arranged in an inverted L shape. Both the Sedan and the Touring variant also get a new front apron with structured surfaces, dynamic lines, and large air intakes.

At the back, the new 3 Series models feature a more sophisticated-looking rear apron. The exhaust system’s tailpipe finishers now measure 90 or 100 millimeters in diameter, depending on the engine variant.

Those who would want to make a bold statement can option the BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW 3 Series Touring with either the M Sport Package or the M Sport Package Pro.

The former gives the 3 Series models a honeycomb grille, new front and rear aprons, new 18-inch M light-alloy wheels with mixed-size tires, trapezoidal tailpipe trims for the exhaust system, and Black high-gloss M exterior mirror caps. The latter, on the other hand, adds the extended M High-gloss Shadowline trim, M lights Shadowline, and the M Sport braking system with red calipers.

Inside, the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and 3 Series Touring models get a redesigned cockpit.

Featured is the new BMW Curved Display where the 12.3-inch information display behind the steering wheel and the 14.9-inch control display merge together into a single fully digital and high-resolution unit.

In addition, both 3 Series models get the BMW iDrive with the latest generation of BMW Operating System 8 which allows for a multi-sensory vehicle experience.

Through the BMW Curve Display, both 3 Series models were able to achieve a seamless and clean-looking interior by minimizing the control buttons in the cabin by replacing them with touch and voice control. All models now also come with the BMW Live Cockpit Plus including the BMW Maps navigation system.

Other new additions to both the 3 Series model’s standard specifications include an automatically dimming rear-view mirror, the extended storage package, and Park Distance Control (PDC) with sensors at the front and rear.

The selector lever for the eight-speed Steptronic transmission — which has now been made standard for both the 3 Series cars — also has a new design. It is positioned in the control panel on the center console along with the Start/Stop button, iDrive Controller, Driving Experience Control buttons, parking brake, and other vehicle functions.
