BMW recently announced an updated variant of its X7 SUV. According to the German automotive brand, the new BMW X7 offers extensive design refinements, an expanded range of standard equipment, additional driver assistance systems, and the latest 48V mild-hybrid technology.
“With its inimitable combination of exclusivity, dynamic excellence, luxuriant spaciousness, and versatility, the BMW X7 has quickly developed into the most successful BMW model in the luxury class,” BMW said in a press release.
The front end features extensive design modifications including a new kidney grille flanked by split headlight units together with the position light, daytime driving lights, and turn signal indicators.
The range-topping BMW X7 M60i xDrive gets the “Iconic Glow” BMW kidney grille as standard but can also be had on other variants of the X7 SUV as an optional add-on. The “Iconic Glow” grille features discreet cascade lighting for the two BMW kidney grille elements both when stationary and on the move.
The fore is complemented by a rear that features slim light units, which now have three-dimensional sculpting. The rear of the SUV also features an elegant chrome bar.
The new X7 rides on 20-inch light-alloy wheels.
Inside, the new X7 lives up to its luxury SUV pedigree with heated comfort seats as standard for the driver and front passenger. The Euro-spec X7 comes with Individual Merino extended leather upholstery while X7s released in other regions offer the optional Sensafin seats. Optional add-ons include active seat ventilation with a massage function for the front seats. The second and third-row seats can be heated, as can the steering wheel and the armrests for the driver and front passenger, with the optional Comfort Package.
The updated X7 also gets a newly designed instrument panel accompanied by the BMW Curved Display. It also comes with a redesigned gear selector lever. Improving the auditory experience is the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System.
Powertrain options for the new X7 include a V8 4.4-liter gasoline powerplant and the latest-generation six-cylinder in-line mill, available in both gasoline and diesel versions. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission including shift paddles on the steering wheel and a Sprint function and are integrated with the new-generation 48V mild-hybrid technology.
The mild-hybrid system adds an extra 12hp to the total output of each engine and an additional 200Nm to their respective maximum torques.
The new BMW X7 also gets an expanded selection of driver-assist systems including the front collision warning system, trailer assistant, and maneuver assistant.
BMW said that the new X7 will be produced at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in the US in South Carolina. Its expected global market launch is in August 2022.
