BUYER'S GUIDE: 2019 Maxus V80

BUYER'S GUIDE: 2019 Maxus V80

New Chinese vehicle brand Maxus officially expanded its operations to the Philippines just this June, and as its opening salvo, released two massive people haulers in the guise of the Maxus V80 and G10. While the latter is more of an MPV, the V80 is every bit the workhorse van the extended Filipino family deserves. Get to know more about the 2019 Maxus V80 in this Buyer's Guide.

Specification

The Maxus V80 van is powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged intercooled CRDI diesel engine with VGT, good for 134 hp and 330 Nm. The front-wheel propelled drivetrain speeds up via a six-speed manual transmission. This van comes in three different variants--starting with the top spec 13-seat V80 Comfort, the standard 18-seat V80 Flex, and the low-rung V80 Transport, a three-seat cargo hauler. Whether for family or business, there's a V80 here available for you.

Exterior

If the Toyota Grandia and Hyundai Starex had a lovechild, the V80 would be it. The van's design is pretty straightforward, but despite the modest appearance, interior cabin space is maximized, thanks to the body's boxy appearance. It's got halogen headlights and LED daytime running lights, and fog lights are provided for the Comfort variant. Wheel size across all trims is 16-inches and made of alloy.

Interior

Practicality is the name of the game for the V80, so anyone expecting a luxurious cabin will be severely disappointed. Sparse and basic yet smart, the dashboard has a near symmetrical design, with a nifty central gauge cluster to add a nice touch. Naturally, the V80 Comfort comes with all the best features, such as power windows, parking sensors, and Bluetooth infotainment system--all of which are unavailable in the other trims.

Space

Business owners will certainly enjoy the amount of space available in the Maxus V80. UV Express owners will find that the 18-seat Flex is a great way to maximize their income, while businesses with delivery services will gush over the Transport's gargantuan cargo hold. Though the Comfort is the least spacious of them all as far as passenger and cargo capacity is concerned, as the name suggests, it offers a more comfortable ride for private users.

Safety

Each variant comes equipped with ABS and two airbags. The Comfort trim comes added with more upscale safety features including keyless entry, central locking, parking sensors, alarm, and immobilizer.

Our Verdict

The 2019 Maxus V80 van has a price range of PHP1,288,000 to PHP1,570,000, with the Comfort costing PHP1,570,000, the Flex PHP1,190,000, and the Transport at PHP1,288,000. Chinese car brands have improved on quality by leaps and bounds since their entry into the market in the 2000s, so despite the low cost, you can expect the Maxus V80 to give its more expensive counterparts a run for their money.
