Electric vehicle manufacturing giant
BYD recently announced the presence of its multi-layered
electric transportation lineup in the country.
Solar Transport and Automotive Resources (STAR), the official distributor of BYD in the country, headed by Managing Director
Mark Andrew Tieng spearheaded the "launch of multi-layered electrified transportation solution in the Philippines." which consists of skyrail, electric and hybrid cars, electric buses and electric forklifts.
In its statement, BYD's started with the announcement of its
partnership with the
local governments of Iloilo and Bataan for the development of their
Skyrail system.
Tieng said that since they brought BYD to the local shores, they are looking forward to the widespread usage of electric vehicles in the country.
"When we started in the Philippines, we launched our (BYD)
e6 and became the first to bring in an Electric Vehicle in the Philippines. We worked with government and various stakeholders and shared with them the astounding benefits of electric vehicles not only to the environment, but also to the economy and its owners. Today, with the TRAIN law, the leadership in Philippine Government recognized the
benefits of electric cars and
granted zero excise taxes for electric cars," Tieng said in his speech.
"We move ahead into changing the game in transportation, guided by our mission, to be the leading mobility solutions provider, built on excellence in technological innovations, committed to environmental sustainability and delivering the best brand ownership experience by a team of passionate individuals," he added.
Further, BYD also added more vehicle to their EV lineup as aside from the E6, it also launched the
BYD Tang, a
seven-seater plug-in electric hybrid executive SUV that could be driven to
up to 80 kilometers on pure EV mode.
To ensure that you would never run out of energy, the BYD Tang is also powered by a
2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that could provide a total power output of
505 hp on Hybrid Electric Sport mode and can also go from 0-100 kilometers in
less than 5 seconds.
The plug-in Hybrid can be charged in a
220-volt socket at home or at work allowing you to
charge anywhere, anytime.
Aside from that, BYD Tang can be utilized as power source when you are off the grid. BYD displayed several applications of this in its display where it powered a movie theater-style popcorn machine and a coffee machine in a camping set-up.
Moreover, BYD is also set to bring more electric vehicles within the year with the
BYD e5, a
five-seater sedan that has an electric range of
300 kilometers on a single charge, with a maximum speed of
130 kph.
Relatedly, STAR Corp is also handling distribution of BYD’s Material Handling Equipment. They are powered by the same battery technology that has made BYD the No. 1 EV Manufacturer in the world from 2015-2017. This
Lithium Ion Iron Phosphate Battery offers a long lifespan of
4,000 cycles which is equivalent to about 10 years. It is maintenance-free and requires
up to 2 hours of charging.
