MANILA: BYD Cars Philippines has formally launched the Seal at the 2024 Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS).
Per Mobility Access Philippines Ventures Incorporated, its latest electrified sedan offering — which is part of the marque’s “Ocean” series — was introduced in the country to “redefine electric vehicle performance with its innovative and advanced features, premium amenities, and dynamic performance.”
"The launch of the BYD Seal marks an energetic step in our journey towards electrified mobility,” ACMobility Chief Executive Officer Jaime Alfonso Zobel de Ayala said.
“This performance-driven electric sedan sets new standards for driving pleasure and exemplifies our commitment to introducing electric vehicles that excite the market. Ably supported by our growing electric vehicle charging infrastructure, the BYD Seal is set to elevate the EV driving experience in the Philippines to new heights.”
The all-new BYD Seal measures 4,800 millimeters (mm) long, 1,875 mm wide, and 1,460 mm tall — with a 2,920-mm wheelbase and 120-mm unladen ground clearance.
Its rear cargo area offers 400 liters and its front trunk, 50 liters.
Complementing the vehicle’s modern look are its sharp-looking LED headlamp clusters, rear diffuser, an LED taillight bar, 19-inch wheels, and glass roof.
Other convenience features that the BYD Seal has are the following:
For its cabin, the car’s dashboard comes with a 15.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto mated to a 12-piece Dynaudio speaker system, a wireless smartphone charging pad, several USB ports, a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster and a head-up display.
Its front chairs have boosters, a rigid one-piece design that have power adjustability, lumbar support, heating and ventilation, and soft quilted leather upholstery. Separating the seats is the center armrest that acts as a storage bin and housing for the vehicle’s NFC reader.
Additionally, the BYD Seal is outfitted with a flat-bottom, tilt-and-telescopic leather steering wheel; leather-wrapped dashboard; glass-decorated gear selector, and an automatic anti-dazzle rear view mirror.
On the other hand, the rear passengers also get to enjoy center armrest and air-conditioning vents.
Moving the all-new BYD Seal are dual electric motors that can dish out up to 522 horsepower and 670 Newton-meters of torque—which lets the car zoom zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.8 seconds sans the emissions.
Providing juice to the electric motors is the 82.5 kilowatt-hour battery (with a 150-kilowatt direct current charging capability) that gives the vehicle a range of as much as 580 kilometers (km).
The BYD Seal’s all-wheel-drive system, frequency selective damping shock absorbers, and “cell-to-body technology” allow its drivers to better enjoy the car.
Further, the new electric car is equipped with eight airbags, anti-lock braking system, ISOFIX child seat anchors, six parking sensors, a 360-degree view camera, traction control, stability control, hill-start assist, and electronic brake force distribution.
It also comes with a myriad of advanced driver-assist systems such as the following:
Available in Artic Blue, Cosmos Black, Arctic White, and Atlantis Grey, the BYD Seal is priced at P2.548 million. It is packaged with several warranties: an eight-year or 160,000-km for the Blade Battery, an eight-year or 150,000-km for its drive unit, and a six-year or 150,000-km for the other parts of the vehicle.
