BYD Sealion 6 gets 5-star ANCAP safety rating

The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) gave the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i a five-star safety rating.

According to the vehicle safety-focused organization, the aforementioned nameplate — which entered the Australia and New Zealand market early this year — demonstrated a “solid all-round safety performance.”

Based on tests conducted by the group, the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i received high scores in the following categories:

• Adult occupation protection: 88 percent (35.51 out of 40 points)
• Child occupation protection: 86 percent (45.52 out of 49)
• Vulnerable road users: 83 percent (52.59 out of 63)
• Safety assist: 75 percent (13.64 out of 18)

To note, the Australasian-spec BYD Sealion 6 got the said grades thanks to its host of features that include the autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system capable of detecting and reacting to vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.

“The Sealion 6 is fitted with a cyclist anti-dooring system that provides information if a bicycle is approaching from the rear, however the information was not sufficiently early to be awarded points for this function,” ANCAP added.

ANCAP Chief Executive Officer Carla Hoorweg lauded BYD as it continues to offer “high levels of safety to its customers.”

Last July, BYD Cars Philippines introduced the Sealion 6 DM-i to the country, wearing a P1.548 million price tag. The said model is fitted with DiPilot driver assistive amenities composed of a 360-degree camera with see-through mode, six-radar sensor setup, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure assist, automatic emergency braking, front collision warning, traffic congestion assistance, and traffic sign recognition.

In addition, the ACMobility-guided vehicle distributor noted that the BYD Sealion 6’s locally-retailed version is equipped with a traction control system, electronic stability control, anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution and comfort braking function, as well as the electronic anti-theft system.
