Overall sales of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) for the full seven months of 2023 went up by 31 percent.

    Last month, the two groups were able to retail 37,086 vehicles — reflecting 33.3 percent more than the 27,813 units in July 2022 and 2.2-percent higher versus the 36,311 examples delivered to customers in June 2023.

    Continuously leading the sales thrust is the commercial vehicle segment. Made up of nearly three-fourths of the entire automotive year-to-date sales (74.8 percent), the models in the category rolled out to owners a total of 179,144 units.

    Meanwhile, the remaining portion (25.8 percent) comprised the passenger car segment — selling 60,357 examples to clients in the January-July 2023.

    CAMPI President Atty. Rommel Gutierrez said that “the auto industry is notably going strong despite the consumer spending slowdown attributed to the risks of inflation.”

    “In fact, the auto industry is sustaining its positive growth trend as sales of new motor vehicles recorded a continued year-on-year growth for the past 17 consecutive months – since March 2022. The industry hopes to maintain this trend for the year,” he noted.

    “The auto industry is truly inspired to expand its product and service offerings to the consumers and businesses alike as seeing this continued growing demand for new motor vehicles is indeed a welcome and significant part of growth development,” the CAMPI helm added.

    Spearheading the stellar performance is Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) after it cornered almost 45.99 percent, selling 110,158 units for the full seven months of 2023. Trailing TMP is Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation after delivering 43,831 examples to buyers.

    Ford Motor Philippines is in third place with 16,611 units sold and is closely followed by Nissan Philippines with 15,674 examples retailed.

    At fifth spot is Suzuki Philippines, retailing 10,174 units for the past seven months.
