CAMPI, TMA sales nearly doubled in Aug.
The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) almost doubled the vehicle sales last August in comparison to the same period in 2021.

CAMPI and TMA collectively delivered 212,872 units to customers during the full eight months of the year.Based on their consolidated report, the two groups have collectively retailed a total of 30,185 units for last month, which reflected a 90.5-percent rise over the 15,847 units delivered to customers over the same month a year ago.
The figures for last August (which is a known lean month for the industry every year) is 8.5-percent higher than 27,813 vehicles rolled out to buyers in July 2022.
Providing the momentum for the industry last month is the commercial vehicle segment (CV) after selling 23,452 examples, which is equivalent to 77.69 percent share of the market and showed a 114-percent increase when compared to the 10,953 units sold in August last year. It is also 9.2 percent more in comparison to last July’s 21,465 (CV) sales output.
Sales for the passenger car (PC) sector went up in August 2022 after retail sales reached 6,733 — a 37.6-percent growth from the August 2021’s 4,894 vehicle sales performance and 6.10-percent improvement when related to 6,346 units sold the previous month.
“The recovery of the industry is indeed on track as we reached monthly sales of above 30,000 units – a pre-pandemic monthly performance level last recorded in 2019. This year-on-year improvement of 90.5-percent in August brings us closer to achieving the industry sales target this year, CAMPI President Atty. Rommel Gutierrez said.
Further, the CAMPI-TMA has sold 212,872 units during the full eight months of 2022, which is equivalent to 25.1-percent growth compared with the same period last year.
The top five automotive distributors in the groups are Toyota Motor Philippines (108,746 units), Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (30,207 units), Nissan Philippines Inc. (14,487), Ford Philippines (13,348) and Suzuki Philippines (12,838).
The numbers were released days before the much-awaited 8th Philippine International Motor Show that is slated September 15-18 at the World Trade Center.
“With the return of the 8th Philippine International Motor Show this month, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic of having a stronger year after a period of lower sales achievement because of the pandemic,” the CAMPI executive added.
Themed “Mobility + Humanity: Innovating for the Common Good," this year's PIMS will focus on introducing safer, more efficient and sustainable mobility to the people.
For the 8th PIMS, a total of 13 brands from CAMPI namely BMW, Chery, Foton, Geely, Honda, Hyundai, Isuzu, Kia, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Suzuki, and Toyota will showcase their latest and most recent innovations that will drive the future of mobility.
Tickets will be purchased at the venue for P200 each but the first 1,000 ticket buyers every show day will have a 50-percent discount. Gates will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
