KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How many vehicles did the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. and Truck Manufacturers Association sold in the first two months of 2022?

The groups had a combined sales of 45,069 units.
  • What is the CAMPI-TMA sales target for 2022?

The two groups are trying to sell 336,000 units for the whole year.
  • Based on their joint report, the groups had a combined sales of 45,069 units in January-February 2022 as against the 49,610 vehicles delivered to customers in the period last year.

Reflecting the biggest slide is the passenger car segment, which had a 23-percent dive after rolling out 11,698 vehicles in the first two months of the year.

The commercial vehicle (CV) category — which holds 74.04 percent of the overall sales for the year — is down by three percent for the initial months of 2022 after hitting a 33,371-unit performance.

Under CVs, the light commercial vehicle segment is is the only category that showed a positive output (4.1-percent rise) after selling 26,867 examples in the opening months of the year.

The groups’ February 2022 sales also showed an upward trajectory as the consolidated sales output of 24,304 units sold posted an increase of 17 percent when compared to the previous month’s 20,765 vehicles handed over to buyers. Despite that, it is still 7.3 percent short when weighed up against the 26,230 vehicles rolled out to customers in February 2021.

CAMPI President Atty. Rommel Gutierrez attributed the strong February 2022 sales to the “improved consumer confidence as the country has shifted to ‘low-risk’ for COVID-19 classification,” which is a welcome development for the industry.

“The industry is anticipating to see a continued recovery this month as the economy further reopens, downgrading to the least restrictive Alert Level 1 in major areas including the National Capital Region starting this month,” Gutierrez said.

“As the economy reopens, the safety and health of the public is paramount to prevent another wave of virus infections and cause disruption anew to the recovery of the industry, which targets to sell 336,000 units this year – a 17-percent increase from the actual volume last year,” he added.

Maintaining a massive lead is Toyota Motor Philippines with 22,120 vehicles turned over to purchasers while cornering 49.06 percent of the total market in the country.

In second place is Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation with 6,458 units sold while taking the third spot is Nissan Philippines with 3,538 vehicles dispensed to customers.

Rounding up the top five local automotive distributors are Suzuki Philippines Inc. (at fourth spot with 2,896 units sold) and Ford Motor Philippines Inc. (in fifth place with 2,703 vehicles rolled out).
