The Changan CS55 Plus is one of the brand’s newest entries into the local automotive scene.
The wild yet mannered subcompact crossover offers prospective car buyers an aggressive and mature-looking ride packed with plenty of modern features.
Notable is its 1.5-liter BlueCore engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, which puts out 185 horsepower (hp) with 300 Newton meters (Nm) of torque.
It also flaunts a full LED lighting setup, 19-inch alloy wheels, a twin exhaust pipe system with chrome tips, and a panoramic sunroof with anti-pitch and a rain-sensing feature.
The cabin, on the other hand, boasts automatic air conditioning with a PM filter and an ion generator, a 10-inch instrument panel, and a 12.3-inch infotainment system.
The Changan CS55 Plus is offered in two variants (Hype and Luxe) and has a base price of P1.179 million.
Challenging the Changan CS55 Plus are two other subcompact crossovers, the first of which is the MG HS.
The MG HS, looking to prove why it has slowly become a segment staple, proudly flexes its Euro-inspired styling.
At the fore is its chrome-trimmed Stardust grille flanked by LED headlamps. A little to the bottom is a matte silver skid plate and a pair of fog lamps.
Its side is bedecked with further chrome accents found on the lower side of its body and on its 18-inch alloy wheels.
The rear features the same chrome appliques, this time on its liftgate handle. Also found are two LED taillamps and two rear fog lamps.
The MG HS also has a panoramic sunroof and roof rails.
Inside are leather seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and more leather trims on the doors. It also gets a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Power comes from a 1.5-liter gasoline engine mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission with manual Tiptronic function. It makes 166 horses with 250Nm of torque.
It is offered in two variants: Alpha and Trophy. The price for the MG HS starts at P1.258 million.
The Chery Tiggo 5X is another subcompact crossover that is willing to hold the fort for its manufacturer.
Sporting similarly modern appointments, the Chery Tiggo 5X’s front end is adorned by its Waterfall front fascia. It s flanked by LED dynamic headlights and LED daytime running lights.
The side profile of the Chery Tiggo 5X is highlighted by a set of 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels, chrome roof rails, and a panoramic sunroof.
Its rear sports taillamps, a roof-mounted spoiler with a high-mount stop lamp, and faux skid plates at the bottom.
Inside, the Chery Tiggo 5X features leather seats, a leather steering wheel, and a rear A/C vent. It also gets a digital instrument cluster and a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Under its hood is a 1.5-liter gasoline powerplant mated to either a five-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission. The setup produces 114hp and 141Nm.
Offered in three variants (MT, AT, and AT Luxury), the range-topping model of the Chery Tiggo 5X surprisingly retails for P980,000.
