It’s no secret that Toyota has been giving the majority of its nameplates the Gazoo Racing (GR) treatment. From the rally-ready GR Yaris to the souped-up Fortuner GR-S sport utility vehicle (SUV), Toyota has injected its vehicles with track-oriented appointments both functional and cosmetic.
One of Toyota’s locally-offered pickup trucks was also recently Gazoo-fied. The Toyota Hilux GR-S received trim-specific updates inside and out. Today, we’re going to take a look at what one can find inside the cabin of Toyota’s GR-spec Hilux.
The first thing one would notice upon opening the Toyota Hilux GR-S’ doors is the abundance of leather trims found in the interior. The seats are finished in a combination of suede and leather with red accents on the shoulder bolsters and “GR” badges on the headrests. Likewise, the steering wheel — equipped with paddle shifters — is also wrapped in leather and dons a “GR” emblem. Leather accents complemented with red stitching can also be found on the door trims of the SUV.
And while the use of leather, which in most cases denotes elegance and opulence, somehow works for the performance-oriented attitude of the Toyota Hilux GR-S. The red accents, in particular, give the leather-wrapped components a sporty appeal.
Like the models that belong in the Toyota Hilux Conquest grade, the Hilux GR-S also packs an eight-inch infotainment system. The audio display unit has Bluetooth, AppleCarPlay, Android Auto, and Miracast connectivity features. It also doubles as a panoramic view monitor for when one needs a good view when maneuvering the Toyota Hilux GR-S.
The large infotainment system is paired with a 4.2-inch multi-information display past the aforementioned leather steering wheel.
One of the unlikeliest features Toyota added to the Hilux GR-S is a rear air conditioning vent. Of all the models in the Hilux range, only the Hilux GR-S has the aforementioned feature.
However, like other Hilux trims, the Toyota Hilux GR-S is fitted with automatic climate control.
While these features cannot be found inside the cabin of the Toyota Hilux GR-S, the additional Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) and Rear Cross Trac Alert (RCTA) safety features are still worth mentioning. Like the abovementioned rear A/C vents, BSM and RCTA are safety features endowed only to the Toyota Hilux GR-S.
They come on top of the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) — which includes Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) — that comes with Toyota Hilux Conquest models.
For mass-produced models like the Toyota Hilux, the GR-S model not only separates would-be owners from the crowd but also gives them a handful of practical features.
