Chery has been designated as the official presidential vehicle partner in the 2023 BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Summit at Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Chinese automaker's South African arm forged an agreement with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) as well as the Department of Transport to be the mobility provider for the senior delegates and visitors of the aforementioned event.
After the pact has been signed, Chery South Africa handed over the keys of the 60 Tiggo 8 Pro Max units to the event organizers — utilized to transport the international delegates attending the affair.
Per CAP, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max is equipped with a 2.0 Turbo GDI engine that can provide a peak churn of as much as 254 horsepower and 390 Newton-meters of torque. It is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
In addition, the seven-seater model utilized features a flexible large space, Lion5.0 AI technology smart cockpit, and 24.6-inch integrated dual screen.
“To be chosen as an official Presidential Vehicle Partner, a brand and their chosen vehicle must offer the highest level of luxury, performance and safety… We are extremely proud to be able to provide our flagship Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max to the South African government and all the members and guests of the BRICS countries,” Chery South Africa Executive Deputy General Manager Tony Liu was quoted as saying.
In a separate statement, Chery Auto Philippines (CAP) noted that it was not the first that the global marque has served with the organizers of the aforementioned meet as the Chery Tiggo 7 units were also utilized in 2017 summit.
“Beyond simply providing a fleet of vehicles, Chery South Africa will offer its customary level of service and support to the BRICS organizers. This goes well beyond our comprehensive one-million-kilometer warranty to include our 24/7 roadside support service and our range of included value-added services such as courtesy vehicles, scratch and dent repair and a concierge service,” Liu mentioned.
Further, CAP said that the Chery Tiggo 8 lineup has already been designated for many important international occasions. These include being the welcome car for the President of Brazil, the official car of Qatar Airways, among others.
To note, Chery is the leading passenger vehicle exported in China for 20 straight years. Its cumulative sales volume has already breached 12 million, and the number of overseas users has exceeded 2.8 million.
For January to July 2023, Chery was able to retail 891,895 units around the globe — reflecting a 47-percent year-on-year increase.
