Chery Philippines unveiled its latest new-energy vehicle offering sometime last week.
The Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid is a mild hybrid vehicle looking to offer Filipino car buyers an affordable eco-friendly crossover. That said, many motorists looking to upgrade might still be on the fence about making the decision to switch to a greener means of mobility via this Chinese automobile.
On that note, we’re going to take a look at the pros and cons of the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid to help our readers make an informed buying choice.
The Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid wears exterior design elements typical of today’s modern crossovers such as the Ford Territory, which coincidentally is also made in China.
At its front is a large radiator grille, which Chery calls the “Diamond-Shaped Shining Grille.” Flanking each side is a pair of LED headlamps with “Crystal Diamond Lens” and follow-me-home function as well as “G-type” daytime running lamps. Also notable is its lower front bumper with a red-on-brushed aluminum accent.
To its side is a continuation of the abovementioned red trim, now found on the claddings of its doors. These are complemented by blacked-out wheel arches that house 18-inch 10-spoke “dynamic wheels.”
Other features visible from this side angle are its brushed aluminum roof rails, black plastic B and C-pillars, and two-tone power-folding side mirrors with repeaters and cameras.
Finally, the rear end of the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid boasts two “3D Hollow Light Band Blackened Taillamps,” a brushed aluminum diffuser with faux chrome exhaust appointments, reflectors, and a third brake lamp.
Those hopping inside the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid will find that it has a contemporary-looking cabin to match its modern exterior.
Greeting drivers is a multi-functional leather steering wheel, leather seats, and a leather armrest. Passengers can also enjoy this comfortable upholstery as it is also applied to the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid’s rear center armrest and its door trims.
According to Chery Philippines, this leather material is sustainably sourced, further boosting the Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid’s appeal as a clean crossover.
Additionally, its dashboard is covered with a soft-touch material that complements the hide used on the vehicle’s interior.
There’s also no shortage of modern car tech as the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid boasts a digital seven-inch instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and a relatively small sunroof that — based on a video shown by Chery — can be operated using voice command.
The Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid offers electric vehicle (EV)-like functions thanks to the hybrid technology used by the Chinese carmaker on the crossover’s powertrain setup.
According to Chery, the Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid is equipped with functions like Auto Start and Stop and Energy Recovery. The former is said to shut off the engine when engine power is not needed (such as during stoplights to save fuel) while the latter sees the mild-hybrid system regenerate energy during coasting or braking. The energy generated, Chery Philippines explained, will then be converted and stored as electrical energy in the batteries.
Under its hood is a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with a 48-volt belt-starter generator mild-hybrid motor mated to a continuously variable transmission. The said setup generates a maximum power of 154 horses and 230 Newton-meters of torque.
Despite the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid’s good-looking interior, it can get a little claustrophobic inside.
On that note, it’s obvious that the crossover can comfortably accommodate up to four occupants and traveling with five people (three adults at the back) might not be ideal.
The Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid has noticeable plastic components inside and out. Nevertheless, the use of such plastic parts can be forgiven as it is touted as an affordable alternative to some of today’s hybrid and mild-hybrid models.
Additionally, some car buyers might even prefer the implementation of such econo car-like components as they are easier to maintain.
The Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid is a good choice for young Filipino families who would like to pave the way for a cleaner and a more sustainable means of moving.
Its disadvantages can easily be overlooked by car buyers thanks to its more notable advantages.
The Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid is priced at P1.14 million.
