Chery Auto Philippines (CAP) has dropped the drapes off its latest new energy vehicle offering in the country: the semi-hybrid Tiggo 5X Pro.
The local arm of the Chinese automotive brand officially unveiled its latest mild-hybrid offering in an event held at City of Dreams Manila.
“We are excited to introduce the new Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid to Filipino new car buyers. With its upmarket styling, efficient hybrid drivetrain, and premium features, we expect it to surprise and delight Filipinos who want to get more from their subcompact crossover,” stated newly-appointed CAP Managing Director Froilan Dytianquin.
The Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid wears the brand’s “Diamond-Shaped Shining Grille” flanked by a pair of LED headlamps with “Crystal Diamond Lens” and follow-me-home function. Further below, the new subcompact crossover sports “G-type” daytime running lamps as well as a lower front bumper accented with brushed red and aluminum.
To its side are brushed aluminum roof rails, black plastic B and C-pillars, two-tone power-folding side mirrors with repeaters that house impressively inconspicuous cameras, black claddings and wheel arches, as well as a set of 18-inch 10-spoke “dynamic wheels.”
The rear end of the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid is adorned by the company’s “3D Hollow Light Band Blackened Taillamps,” a body-colored roof-mounted spoiler with a third brake lamp, bold chrome badges bearing the crossover’s nameplate and its “Hybrid” badge, reflectors, and a brushed aluminum diffuser with faux dual exhaust appointments.
Inside, the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid welcomes drivers with a leather steering wheel, leather seats with perforation and red accents, and a leather front armrest. The said hide, Chery Philippines pointed out, was made sustainably, appealing to the environmentally-conscious car buyers looking to drive home this semi-hybrid vehicle.
More plush materials come in the form of soft-touch appointments in the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid’s dashboard and door trims.
Additional notable features are its relatively small sunroof, rear air conditioning vents, and second-row armrests.
In the way of technology, the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid offers a fully digital seven-inch instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that doubles as its 360-degree around-view and reversing camera monitor (with dynamic guidelines), and a wireless charging pad.
Under its hood is a new-generation 1.5-liter turbocharged engine mated to a continuously variable transmission. Together with a 48-volt (V) belt-starter generator mild-hybrid motor, this setup generates a maximum power output of 154 horses and 230 Newton-meters of torque.
“The mild hybrid technology allows the Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid to have various EV (electric vehicle) functions like Auto Start and Stop, which shuts off the engine when engine power is not needed such as during stoplights to save fuel and Energy Recovery, wherein the mild hybrid system regenerates energy during coasting or braking and the energy generated will then be converted and stored as electrical energy in the batteries. Other mild hybrid benefits include fuel efficiency and lower emissions (the 48-V technology boosts the engine giving the engine less hard work in acceleration),” Chery Philippines explained in a press release.
Safety-wise, the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid offers features such as airbags and seatbelts, an electronic stability program, hill assist control, hill descent control, traction control, tire pressure monitoring, and ISOFIX tethers, to name a few.
Alongside the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid, the Chinese brand’s local wing also showcased the Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid — its first hybrid offering in the country.
Together, the two nameplates look to usher in a new era of “Chery Green Mobility.”
“The new Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid and Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid redefine the subcompact and compact crossover categories. With their generous exterior dimensions, they are among the largest and most spacious vehicles in their class, and with their hybrid powertrains, they are among the most, if not the most, fuel-efficient of all. There is truly more to our cars,” Dytianquin concluded.
Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid is priced at P1.14 million while the Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid has a sticker price of P1.35 million.
