Chevrolet builds first-ever pursuit-rated Silverado

Chevrolet has launched its first-ever pursuit-rated Silverado pickup.

In a statement, the Golden Bowtie marque’s 2023 Silverado Police Pursuit Vehicle — which was built on 25 years of success with the Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicle — is a crew-cab, short-bed, four-wheel drive truck designed for high speeds and dynamic capability that has ample storage capacity needed for an everyday patrol vehicle.

“We are constantly having conversations with customers and evaluating how we can better meet their needs,” said GM Fleet United States Vice President Ed Peper was quoted as saying.

“Our 25 years of engineering Tahoe police pursuit vehicles coupled with Chevrolet’s 100 years of truck success, puts us in a great position to deliver a truly capable Silverado PPV for our customers.”

The Chevrolet Silverado Police Pursuit Vehicle shares some of the Tahoe’s performance-based features such as the 5.3-liter V8 engine paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission, heavy-duty engine air filter and six-piston Brembo brake front calipers with 16-inch rotors.

To note, the vehicle can deliver up to 355hp and a 9,300-pound towing capacity.

Aside from that, the Chevrolet Silverado Police Pursuit Vehicle wears 20-inch black steel wheels on Goodyear all-terrain speed-rated tires.

Further, the aforementioned vehicle comes with the following standard features:

• Rancho shocks (included with the Silverado’s proven Z71 off-road package)
• Locking rear differential
• Skid plate

The Chevrolet Silverado Police Pursuit Vehicle gives the best-in-class ground clearance of 11.35 inches  and an approach angle of 25.9 degrees — thanks to its two-inch lifted suspension.

Moreover, the Chevrolet has made available specialty equipment options that allows easy upfitting that include:

• Auxiliary wiring circuits: for easy installation of wiring to connect the truck’s horn and siren
• Surveillance Mode circuit: allows an upfitter to easily install lighting control. Once a third party installs the wiring, the circuit enables control over the truck’s exterior and interior lighting, allowing for discretion while on patrol
• Five upfitter switches: for simple linking to the controls used most frequently.
• Optional deletion of front center seat:  for easy customization of the vehicle's cockpit to meet certain preference and requirements
• LED or halogen spot lamps

The truck is also fitted with standard head- and tail-lamp flashers “to help reduce customer costs and upfit time.”

The truck features keyless entry, standard push start system, column shifter, power seats, as well as vinyl flooring and rear seats.

The Chevrolet Silverado Police Pursuit Vehicle comes with a 220-amp alternator and a pair of 120-volt outlets. Buyers can also have the optional upfitter switch bank with three 30-amp and two 20-amp circuits for emergency equipment.

The vehicle also offers a nearly-six-foot truck bed with a tri-fold tonneau cover, 12 standard welded tie-downs, corner-step rear bumper and an optional multi-flex tailgate.

For its safety technologies, the Chevrolet Silverado Police Pursuit Vehicle has the following assistive package:

• lane keep assist with lane departure warning
• forward collision alert
• following distance indicator
• automatic emergency braking and front pedestrian braking
• IntelliBeam headlamps
• protected idle
• adaptive cruise control
• rear park assist
• rear cross traffic alert with rear cross traffic braking
• lane change alert with side blind zone alert

The 2023 Silverado Police Pursuit Vehicle and the Special Service Vehicle will be available beginning late third quarter of 2022 in the United States and Canada.
