Chevrolet Corvette is Coming to the Philippines This 2017

Do you remember the scene in the Fast Five film where during a group heist, Dom and Brian escaped from a train using a 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sport Stingray? In the end, they drove it off on a cliff and jumped as the Corvette smashed into the water.

Don't remember that? Then maybe you've seen the Corvette Stingray Concept in the 2009 movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen as the vehicle mode of Autobot member, SideSwipe.

Or if you weren't able to watch that film, then perhaps you've seen the Centennial Corvette convertible in the 2011 sequel, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, instead.

Well, enough of the name-droppings. Now, we don't have to swap movie anecdotes about the Corvette any longer, because Chevy's official Philippine distributor, The Covenant Car Company (TCCCI), is planning to bring it in the country this year.

According to Chevrolet, it wasn't easy bringing this halo car in the Philippines. They had to complete a lot of requirements before they can distribute the car in the country. But now that it has been given the elusive green light, the company can now sell this popular and uber-cool sports car starting this year.

The exact variant, however, is still undisclosed. Chevy Philippines hasn't given any details about the exact variant they're planning to sell. However, TCCCI president Albert Arcilla was once quoted in 2014, saying that Chevrolet wanted to bring in its base model, the Corvette Stingray, in the country. No final word has been released yet, so we're all left hanging here. And it doesn't really matter. Whatever variant it is, we'll all be waiting with breathless (and heart-pounding) anticipation.

The Corvette also known as the "Vette", has been through seven generations already.  It started as a Concept Show Car in 1953, and was traditionally named after the smallest class of maneuverable warship called a "corvette". 

This popular sports car was included in the "100 Best Cars Of All Time" list by Edmunds.com, which ranked the 1963 Corvette Stingray as the 16th best car ever produced worldwide. And here's another nice trivia for you: Back in their early years, the Corvette was one of the cars offered to NASA astronauts together with another car of their choice. These space men were given the option to buy a brand new Chevy Corvette at a very "used price" car sale, while their "other vehicle" was either a family car or their wives' chosen vehicles.
