Chevrolet has announced the 2023 Tahoe RST Performance Edition, a new special-edition model that gives the brand’s most popular full-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) a boost in speed and horsepower.
Under the hood is a 6.2-liter V8 engine exclusively paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The same powerplant is an available option for the current RST and Premier models and is standard in the High Country trim.
The 6.2-liter V8 mill is able to produce more power thanks to the Chevrolet Performance induction and exhaust systems, bringing the overall maximum power output to 433 horsepower (hp) with 633 Nm of raw pulling power. That’s an increase of 13 horses and 9.49Nm of torque over the current RST variant.
It goes from zero to 60 miles per hour (mph) in 5.78 seconds (5.98 seconds from 0-100 kilometers per hour [kph>). The base RST zooms from standstill to 60mph in 5.95 seconds (0-100 kph in 6.16 seconds).
Top speed is at 124mph or 199.55kph.
“The 2023 Tahoe RST Performance Edition is designed for those who want the best of both worlds — the everyday comfort and capability of a full-size SUV along with the driving excitement of a true performance vehicle. It leverages the proven capability of Chevy’s pursuit-rated police vehicle packages and motorsports success to offer a confident, engaging driving experience for our customers,” said Chevrolet Vice President Scott Bell.
Aside from the nameplate’s largest engine option and the brand’s performance-oriented induction and exhaust systems, the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe RST Performance Edition leverages a number of chassis, suspension, and other elements from the pursuit-rated Tahoe PPV law enforcement package, with many of the vehicle’s dynamics calibrated by the same engineering team.
These include police-spec springs, retuned dampers, and police-spec chassis calibrations; police-spec lower ride height of 0.4 inches at the front and 0.8 inches at the rear; Brembo front and rear brakes with unique Torch Red calipers; performance-calibrated brake pedal feel; and police-spec Firestone Firehawk Pursuit tires with specific 20-inch aluminum wheels in black.
“We have carefully tuned this vehicle to handle speed with confidence and control that is immediately apparent behind the wheel. The pursuit-rated driving dynamics inspire excitement and confidence on the road, and we’re proud to have achieved this level of ride and handling in a full-size SUV largely through performance calibration and tuning,” commented General Motors (GM) Vehicle Chief Engineer Dominique Lester.
In addition to the unique powertrain, chassis, and suspension upgrades, the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe RST Performance Edition comes standard with the Luxury Package, which includes a host of active safety features and driver convenience features.
The package is priced at US$8,525 (around P497,557) and will be exclusively available on the 2023 Tahoe RST with the 6.2L V-8 engine currently priced at US$70,415 (approximately P4,109 million). This brings the total price to US$78,940 or P4,607 million.
Production begins in the fourth quarter of 2022 at GM’s Arlington Assembly in Texas.
