As the official Garage 56 Camaro ZL1 track car is set to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend, Chevrolet will release the race car’s production models later within the year.
In a statement, the Golden Bowtie brand said the 2024 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition offering will only have 56 units examples to celebrate the effort to run a NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) Cup Camaro ZL1 at the legendary endurance race.
Chevrolet noted that the Garage 56 project is a product of its collaboration between NASCAR, Hendrick Motorsports, Goodyear and International Motor Sports Association (IMSA). “Even though Chevrolet has been racing since its inception in 1911, we’ve never done anything quite like Garage 56,” General Motors President Mark Reuss was quoted as saying.
The aforementioned vehicle comes with the new-for-2024 Riptide Blue exterior color and a graphics package that pulls in colors and themes from the race car — including thin gold stripes that accent a larger white stripe running from hood to rear decklid.
Just beyond the nose of the aforementioned Chevrolet Camaro is a NASCAR 75th anniversary logo to complement the logo’s placement on the race car. The gold and white stripes provide an accent to the monochromatic stars and stripes visuals that start on the engine cowl on the hood and extend to the roof.
Instead of a Camaro badging, a unique Garage 56 badge can be seen on the front fenders, as well as a Hendrick Motorsports logo added to the sail panels similarly found on the race car.
In addition, satin mirrors and a black fuel door with carbon fiber inserts provide an added flair to the car’s exterior, much like the Garage 56 emblems that are placed on the floor mats and steering wheel.
Each vehicle will come with three additional graphics that buyers can choose to equip their Garage 56 Edition unit that represent the collaborators and are drawn from their decal positions on the race car: a NASCAR windshield header decal, white Goodyear front wheel arch decals and door decals displaying 24, the number run on the race car.
Further, all examples of the 2024 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition are fitted with dive-planes on the front fascia and NASCAR Cup car-style wicker bill spoiler on the decklid.
Just like the competition model, the production car’s power comes from the LT4 V8 engine that can provide 650 horsepower. Also, the Camaro rides on Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires.
Moreover, the Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition will only be produced for the United States market.
“When adapting a race car appearance into a production car, you want to showcase themes, proportions and colors without making the car look out of place on the street,” General Motors Motorsport Design Studio Senior Manager Marc Mainville explained. “The Garage 56 Edition captures the feeling of the race car while allowing the car’s athletic lines to be in the forefront,” he added.
The Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition will enter production later this year at the General Motor's Lansing Grand River Assembly facility in Michigan.
Earlier, the company announced that it is offering a special-edition version for the sixth-generation Camaro. Called 2024 Camaro Collector’s Edition, the Golden Bowtie brand said that the offering serves as a nod to the nameplate’s code name before — Panther.
