Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2 CRDI 4x4
The Santa Fe is packed with nifty innovative ideas which are a definite appeal to those with kids and it also hits the mark when it comes to the fuel economy department; also a major requirement for family cars. Such thriftiness can be traced to Hyundai’s economical 2.2-liter, CRDi (common rail diesel) engine that puts out 150bhp and 247 lb-ft of torque. Modern day diesel engines have begun to shed their reputation as noisy engines, making CRDI engines a more attractive and practical choice for the daily commute or family SUV. The Santa Fe is one of those vehicles that have made owning a diesel practical with performance and fuel economy unrivaled by its petrol counterparts.
Space is not an issue for the Santa Fe as it offers a generous interior space that can comfortably seat seven persons. In addition, the second and third row seats can be folded flat for more cargo space. Smart and stylish features also abound in and out the Santa Fe which makes it an attractive choice when it comes to SUVs. Safety features like ABS, EBD and active headrests also come as standard. But whatever the reason may be, it Hyundai’s amazing 5-year/100,000Km warranty that makes owning a Hyundai very attractive. Top notch design inside and out with comfortable accommodations for 7 persons make it a perennial C! favorite.
Mitsubishi Montero Sport GLS Sport
Despite being new into this category, Mitsubishi’s Montero Sport has certainly made a strong impression in terms of looks, performance, and features. It seems that Mitsubishi has done their homework and it shows wherever you look at it. The exterior is a big upgrade from the previous model, veering away from the box-on-wheels look of its predecessor and borrowing a sleek angled silhouette approach from its smaller Outlander brethren. In fact, one could assume that the new Montero Sport makes an excellent case for being the new midsize SUV master mold.
The Montero also addresses what buyers mostly complained about buying a truck based SUVs and that is ride comfort. But thanks to Mitsubishi’s efforts, they managed to create a 7-seater ute that’s not only pleasing to look at but also pleasing to drive and ride in too. Inside, the cabin is full of features that offer comfort and functionality. Seating in the second row offers generous amounts of legroom and knee room. Don’t be quick to assume that it can’t take on the rough trail as its robust independent suspension can tame the roughest trails. So mush so that the handling and safety aspects can be considered as at par – or even better – than the other players in the midsize SUV segment. Best of both worlds? Well, it certainly does come pretty close to that.
Toyota Fortuner 3.0V 4x4 A/T
A new face, new features, a new ride, and a host of upgrades make the 2009 Fortuner as popular as ever. The changes contributed a lot towards its continuing strong appeal. Why not? While not exactly priced low enough for the masses, it’s a more attainable status symbol than a Lexus. Equipped with such features like: AWD, low-range transfer case, full ladder frame, and a tweaked rear suspension, the Fortuner continues to rake in willing customers.
The interior is quite relaxing with comfortable soft beige fabric seats with lots of space in the second and third row of seats that can be folded to offer even more cargo space. Power-wise, the Fortuner is powered by a 3.0 liter diesel engine that offers the best compromise between power and fuel efficiency. It seems that the Fortuner hits the mark when it comes to what the consumers want. It’s big, it’s powerful, fuel efficient, handles well, stops well, and it’ll go just about anywhere. Overall, it’s the perfect SUV for a growing family or weekend adventurers that are looking for a well balanced SUV.
