The trust of Hyundai Motor Philippines on the Creta’s competencies is of different level since the brand decided to bring back the subcompact crossover despite the short stint with its previous distributor.
But where does this confidence with the nameplate come from? Will the Hyundai Creta do better and stay longer this time around? Here’s what customers can find in the comebacking vehicle’s GLS trim.
The Hyundai Creta GLS is 4,315 millimeters (mm) long, 1,790mm wide, and 1,630mm tall with a 2,610mm wheelbase. It may not be massive, but it is still a good option to those who want a sport utility vehicle (SUV) but only have a budget for a sedan.
Also, thanks to its reportedly 190mm ground clearance, the Hyundai Creta GLS can glide over speed bumps easily and conquer low floodwaters, making it a considerable choice to those who regularly encounter the aforementioned situations.
In addition, the Hyundai Creta offers a generous head and legroom — even for six-foot-tall drivers and passengers.
Giving the Hyundai Creta GLS its distinct elegant appeal is the parametric jewel design grille that makes it look like a small Santa Fe (to a certain extent, even a Palisade). Hidden within the grille are the daytime running lights, which sit above the LED headlamps flanking the air vents up front.
Aggressive lines run at the side of the vehicle starting above the wheel arches all the way to the rear. Providing the athletic appeal for its side profile are the black claddings below the lines while the 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome door handles, and the gloss black roof guarantees makes the vehicle chic.
At the back of the Hyundai Creta are more cuts that dishes out a very modern appeal — complementing the futuristic looking taillamps, rear roof spoiler, shark fin antenna and rear diffuser.
Inside, the Hyundai Creta GLS will greet its occupants with Cognac brown materials found on the leatherette seats, plastic dashboard, up to the door trimmings. However, the Dragon Red Hyundai Creta GLS can also be had with white-hued portions for its fabric seats, dashboard and embellishments on the doors as seen the unit tested. To note, the base grade GL trim on manual transmission has fabric sport seats.
Brushed chrome appointments are also found on the steering wheel, as well as borders of the shift boot, knobs, and buttons found on the center console.
Similar to its lower-end variations, the Hyundai Creta GLS is powered by a 1.5-liter, four-valved, gasoline Smartstream engine that can deliver a maximum output of 113 horsepower and 144Nm of torque. This mill is mated to an intelligent variable transmission. The said numbers make it more of a city sleeker than a pocket rocket.
Also since the vehicle is not designed to churn huge figures in terms of performance, the lack of paddle shifters despite it being the nameplate’s top-tier option is understandable.

Drivers get a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster with a matching eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is Apple Carplay and Android Auto-compatible. It also has a push-start button, wireless smartphone charging dock, along with the two USB ports and a 12-volt socket above it.
Safety technologies of the Hyundai Creta GLS include blind spot collision avoidance assist, lane keep assist, forward collision assist, driver attention warning, rear seat alert, and lane follow assist.
The Hyundai Creta offers superb features amid its size. However, we noticed that there is a certain level of noise from the engine bay that seeps through the cabin. But all that can be covered when everyone inside the vehicle is having fun, right?
Furthermore, the P1.388-million price tag makes it very competitive against its rivals in the segment.
With all these, it is no longer a surprise how the Creta managed to do better this time around by being one of HMPH's current best-selling models.
