Its camouflaged skin doesn’t look much, but underneath there’s a lot to take in. BMW reveals that the 2 Series Coupé will be manufactured in late summer, which could take place anytime between August and September of 2021.
The German carmaker says that the BMW 2 Series Coupé is at the final phase of the series development process and has begun with the dynamic testing and tuning of its drive and suspension systems under racetrack conditions at Nürburgring's Nordschleife.
BMW confirmed that the two-door sports car will be powered by an in-line six-cylinder engine. In addition, its near-perfect 50:50 weight distribution is said to contribute to its agile and dynamic driving behavior. This will give the BMW 2 Series Coupé imprecise steering and superior handling.
A particularly torsion-resistant body structure will contribute to the exceptionally high agility of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, says the carmaker. This effectively reduces body roll and wheel load fluctuations during sporty cornering.
Stroke-dependent dampers will also be a standard feature on BMW’s coupé. These dampers are said to respond sensitively to the slightest road unevenness and compensate vibrations to optimize comfort.
BMW will be offering an optional Adaptive M Chassis for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé. The advanced chassis technology uses electronically controlled dampers to activate the appropriate mapping for both sporty and comfort-oriented driving.
The automaker also paced significant focus on the BMW 2 Series Coupé’s aerodynamics. BMW said that the top trims will have a model-specific front spoiler lip, front splitter and air curtains, air deflectors, as well as a tank and a rear axle cover.
That said, the new BMW 2 Series Coupé will also feature a top-of-the-line M version. The M240i xDrive Coupé top trim level will have a powerful in-line six-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology.
The drive, which is as spontaneously responsive as it is powerful, generates a maximum output of 374hp and is combined with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. BMW said that the M model will be outfitted with the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
